What gradfashionista said.
Seems like I seldom need skirts shorter, but occasionally will try a midi in Petite. Sometimes it works great and I do size up. Sometimes the fit is off.
I've also bought tall size --worked once--to get an extra inch of length in a shorter skirt.
And then there's hemming.
So, when shipping cost is not a problem I'll often try 2 size types.

If it makes you feel better, I'm 5' 4 1/2" and I often buy petites for dresses and skirts where I want a shorter hem! (Of course, it doesn't hurt that I often find dresses and coats from some companies--Banana Republic, for example--fit my torso better too in petites.)

just a note about petite sizes….in general petite sizing is one size from the regular size..so if your a 2 regular you would need a 4P.

Sorry, I guess that was a silly question! My concern was not really can it be done, but with the cost and resulting proportion of back vent to skirt length, which you guys touched on above. Seems weird to be ordering a petite size at 5' 7" but I guess I can give it a shot.

Word of caution: I've ordered the petite version, but fine that it fits differently in the hip than the corresponding regular size.

Do they offer a petite version? Might be cheaper than getting them altered, and you wouldn't have to worry about shortening the vent too much.

Of course you can shorten them! It might cost around $20-30? More with a lining. I think if the vent was shorter than maybe 6 inches it would look out of proportion. You'd have to look at it. Would a petite work for you?

They fall below the knee and i would want them at or slightly above...probably 2 inches shorter.

Has anyone had them hemmed? Did the back vent look out of proportion? What was your cost if you had this professionally done?

I want to add some to my church capsule, but find the below knee length dumpy on me.
