Here in the Bay area I can't have enough. I wear jackets all year round--even in mid-summer it usually cools off in the evening. Again, no matter how warm it is, a trip to SF for an event means taking along a jacket in case. </p> <p>At times I think I have too many jackets and promise myself not to buy more. That's when I usually see a cute one that I can't live without. I have 3 pieces of outerwear -- a short moto puffer for xcountry skiing, a long softshell sport trench for walking or cycling, and a new trench for city wear but I could see adding 1 or 2 more even in my mild climate. And I currently have 4 jackets (one still coming in the post... maybe today... yay!) but the more I hang around here it seems to me that I could easily have a dozen that served very different purposes if I were to sit down and make a list of all the dream looks I might want to concoct. And like Mo said, it really is the completer of outfits. In sales I think they call that "the closer." Don't want to skimp there! I bought my first blazer in 2005 and haven't looked back. I think once I realize the 'completer piece' as Stacy and Clinton refer, it opened a whole new world to me. Before that, I was much like you, the winter/ski jacket and the lighter denim or sweatshirt. I used to only have a jacket or coat for each season or type of weather I may encounter. Just 1 for each type of weather I may encounter. Now, I'm finding that I want several 2 or 3 for each type of weather, so I have a variety to choose from to suit my mood and outfit as well as the weather. It feels kind of weird to think, hmmm, what coat/jacket do I feel like wearing today, instead of , well it's chilly, but not freezing, that means my denim jacket. Or, hmm, it's raining, that means my 1 raincoat or maybe the shell to my ski jacket. I've got quite an arsenal of coats now and I feel like I want more. Am I nuts? How many coats or jackets is too many? </p>
