Oh you gals are the best. I especially like Ana's suggestion of wearing it as a belt. Swell idea! So the artist got back to me but doesn't have a website, so I can't show you the brooches. But he told me where he sells them and I will pick one out sometime this summer. And then I'll get crafty (not really my forte...) and try to create a belt.
I might also try the scarf idea. I think the brooch is too big for a necklace. Thanks all!!

Oh yes! I do that too Nicole. I pop my rose feather brooches onto necklaces.

I have seen brooches used to secure scarves sometimes.

It depends on the brooch. I wear rose feather brooches in Winter. They look great on the lapel of a pinstripe jacket or on a dress (nice contrast). I like Ana’s idea too.

Hmm....depending on the weight and size of the brooch, you could pin it to a wide piece of ribbon and use it as a waist belt. Sort of like this, except instead of the flower, you'd have the brooch:

http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Brows...../93476.jsp

http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Brows...../95487.jsp

http://www.jcrew.com/AST/Brows...../98098.jsp

Or if you have a high collared sort of romantic blouse, you could pin it at the neckline, like a funky throw back to Victorian times and cameos. Pin it to a bag for interest.

Cool. Can't wait to hear what everyone has to say about brooches. I have one beautiful piece I bought at a vintage sale many years ago and it is on a wool coat. I'm sure there are more imaginative ways to wear one.
I hope we get to see the artists website.

I went to the art walk tonight (a monthly event in Seattle, where the galleries around Pioneer Square greet you with art, wine and cheese, plus there are some art and jewelry vendors out on the streets) and was very intrigued by a jewelry vendor who sold brooches. They were amazingly creative pieces, big and bold, many made out of found and random objects in interesting compositions. Very hard to describe, I have never seen anything like it. Most were round, at least 2 inches in diameter and with several layers. Very very funky. I'm gonna email the artist to see if he has any links to pictures online.
Anyway, I didn't buy one, because I have no clue how I'd wear this. I don't own any brooches, I've never considered it, so I'm clueless as to what one can even do with a brooche and this is certainly not the classy brooche you'd pin to lapel. But I'm very intrigued and am wondering if there are ways to wear a brooche in a funky way. Where would I put it??
Any ideas? I'm wondering whether a whole new type of accessory is awaiting me
