It was leggings and a top all the way yesterday, and I was miserable to be around. My poor parents! They're sometimes unintentionally difficult guests and I totally was not rolling with it yesterday.

Anyway, today I'm feeling well enough to sport jeans and a cardi, so we're moving up in the world. :p

Thanks everyone for your super-supportive and caring messages.

Kari, you're so right that it helps to have some comfy FFBOs all planned out. Need to work on that. :)

I can't quite manage fab when I have a serious cold, and that's ok. But, I did finally buy some loungewear that I like. It makes me feel much better than the old men's t-shirts and boxers I used to wear.

i vote for comfort all the way when not feeling well...my fave sick day outfits consist of cheap fleece old navy pants, ugg slippers, and a comfy warm soft shirt of some sort...

Sorry that you are not feeling well.
I think we don't have to look fab when we are sick but how we think we look is much influences by how we feel. Sometimes we don't even look that bad but because we feel bad we think we look awful.
For me it kind of depends on context. If it is something social/ work related that is mandatory I will dress my best, take some pills and get on with it. If it is with someone that I am comfortable with, I will try to look decent but find some comfort items, whichever they might be.

Oh, no - sorry that feeling somewhat rotten has turned into a full on illness. :( I hope that you feel better soon. I'm glad I got to see you before the cold really struck but it's not fun to be sick when you are entertaining your parents.

Honestly, when I feel like that, I don't want to get out of my pajamas or loungewear either. I'm lucky if I even make it to take a shower.

I HAVE upped my loungewear capsule to be a lot more presentable this past year, but I blame the dog for that - I wanted to not feel embarrassed when I pop outside to let her relieve herself!

Me personally? Nope. It takes a surprising amount of effort to be and feel fab in my world, and when I'm sick I give myself a pass and give in to the loungewear. I'm sure others can manage better but what is being sick for, if not to cut yourself some slack?

Hope you feel better!

Aww, Robin, sorry to hear you're battling this nasty cold. And in the midst of a family visit, no less, when you want to be up and about and showing them around your new city.

I think this is where that loungewear capsule idea that's been circulating lately comes in. Very comfortable stuff, very casual. I don't think you can necessarily look or feel fab while you're sick, but I think having and wearing the right things can make you feel at least a little less awful? Comforting. Clothes that feel like a hug?

Astrid: I'm going to get out of the house today, so amm boosting it one step above lounge wear, though...now that i think of it, I just bought some comfy new lounge wear that's awfully tempting and would look decent worn out of the house.

I'm an expert at this! I don't have enough sick time to take off for minor colds. I like to wear dresses because they're generally not constricting and I hate anything constricting when I'm sick. No waistbands, buttons or zippers to dig into me. I have a couple knit blazers that are as warm and cozy as a sweatshirt but look much nicer. I wear scarves which also tend to look somewhat stylish but keep me warm. I have some ponte knit pants that are as comfortable as lounge wear. I like to wear flat shoes and I have several nice pairs of low-heeled boots that work well. I basically have a sick-at-work capsule. I should take photos and post.

But then ---- you'll have your parents around and get some much needed pampering Wear the old cozy stuff because the most important thing right now is to be comfortable.

I think if you're sick and at home anything goes, as long as you're comfortable and decently covered. I'd definitely wear lounge wear over normal clothes. With my immediate family I'd care even less, I might just keep my pajamas on all the time.

I almost never get head colds these days, but, of course, the week my parents are visiting from thousands of mmiles away, I get a doozy, with the cough, the fatigue, the mild fevers, and everything else.

Just have to struggle through.

But it's got me thinking: How do I dress anywhere close to fab when all I want to do is wear pajamas and huddle under the warmest blanket ever (seriously, it really is the warmest non-electric blanket) with a cup of tea beside me?

I'm coughing, sneezing, and my eyes are running. I seriously don't want to get that on my nice new clothes.

Yes, I know clothes can be washed, and I don't have an infection, so we're not talking green stuff, but it's just the idea! I'm not a neat sick person!

I'm not looking for any solutions - just musing out loud.

I'll probably end up wearing older, cozy stuff (that was good enough not to be rejected by Angie) and not worrying terribly how I look most of the time. :)
