Bella, I love Tigers Asics! I think yours are great and don’t find them juvenile at all, with your style either.
I have a 9 year old pair in Teal and neon yellow & a liberty floral print pair. They’re still like new & I love them, so keep them.

I've done it, and I like it! For me, the lines on the sneaker sole have to be pretty clean, but then again I don't have many sneakers where that's not true.

I haven't managed to make jeans + sneakers look like an actual intentional outfit. But I think the sneakers would look more subtle with bootcuts than skinnies, because there's less shoe showing. Ditto about trying them with a platform though. Love them with the snake booties!
PS- next week...it's happening (Will post when it's official)

I quite like this look and think I will try it this fall (even though at 5'2" it won't be the most flattering thing on me!). I think your current sneakers would look great and you don't need leg-lengthening! But more platform would be fun too and in-the-moment. I like Angie's idea of turning under the hem and trying them with your current shoes, at least to get an idea. There does seem to be a lot of variety in sneaker styles right now.

I love the range of sneakers available at the moment. Nike Airforce 1’s May give you the look you want. A nice flatform sneaker and height. You look so long legged in flares, this will look brilliant and intentional on you.

I am wearing colourful sneakers and coordinating them to my clothes. These are my sneakers and I love that I can happily walk for miles in them.

I like the idea of platform sneakers. When I picked my DS up from his semester in Montreal I noticed that platform sneakers were worn by everyone in the city and with any outfit........dresses, trousers, jeans, etc. They make an excellent heel replacement! I purchased a pair and plan to wear mine with my boot cuts.

I 'pinned' this look as soon as I saw it Emma Thompson from the movie 'Late Night'. I think the fashion sneaker or 'dad' sneaker (like in your pic #3) is more modern/on trend at the moment. Of course there is Ellen Degeneres who wore sneakers (rounded toe) with pants before it became a 'thing'. I've always worn sneakers with jeans - flares/bootcuts included. I prefer the rounded toe, since they are a different profile from my running shoes - which look more like the fashion sneaker. I don't like wearing my fitness gear as daywear. The rounded toe Converse or leather sneaker feels different enough and It works with my 'sporty' (possibly 'cute'?) style. ;-)

I think the pointier style of the fashion sneaker (like Emma's) is more of what I believe is your style (sleek, on trend) but I don't want to pigeonhole you into one style.

Thanks, all!

I feel like my existing flat sneakers are a little too low-profile or flat for bootcuts, at least for the look I think I want. I like the idea of a bit more platform yet streamlined style like the Vans, rather than a chunky more athletic style shoe with the shaped sole like the ones Angie just got. More streamlined, less jarring to the eye maybe? I don’t want to look like I left my running shoes on with my jeans outfits.

Hmm, I was nodding along as I read the first few responses (this is a look that I wore in the early 00s, and not sure if I want to do that again), but then I saw your pinterest inspiration pictures, and I am a convert.
Before ordering anything new, I think what you need is a complete outfit try-on session, with tops, toppers, and your existing fashion sneakers, so that you have an idea of which direction you want to go.

If it helps at all, I have struggled with sneaks because I don’t like their very flat style, so I have kind of platform style sneaks - two pairs of reebok and I have just got some Geox. I feel easier in them because it is obvious that I’m not about to go to the gym and they proportion out my legs. That said I tend to wear skinny style jeans.

But it has taken time to get used to and DH is not there yet and ‘doesn’t get them’. DS is fine with them.

Well, they now seem to have more paired with flats/sandals at Anthro. Just looked again. So clearly they like flat bottoms with bootcuts.
I recently got these two that I plan to wear with various jeans, including bootcuts, one for lighter jeans & one more for dark. But they have such a variety, so really it’s whatever you wanna rock & feel good in. Not a narrow scope of what’s in style.

Too bad it seems your chunkiersneakers are the ones you don’t like as well! A platform converse could work— maybe even in a patterned leather (they have them sometimes in florals etc on Amazon). Or a platform oxford.

I share the fear that on me this would look too “high school” but I like your Pins. Pretty and sleek.

Anthro, UO & Free People have all different types of sneakers paired with bootcuts, and their variety leads me to believe there’s stylish or current choices including but beyond chunky, if streamlined is more your jam. I like browsing their sneakers and jeans to see how they style them, for inspiration sometimes.
I currently am wearing a lot of Vans slip ons & lace ups, Chucks, retro nikes, and a chunky Adidas pair the most.

Yes, Lisa! I agree. I think this can look easy cool if done right. The Pinterest search (thanks for the tip) made me realize that one of my longer toppers may be a great way to make this work with a little sophistication too.

I can't leave this thread alone. Did you know that you can get rid of most of those recommended posts on Pinterest? There is now a tab called "following" , that shows you ONLY what you have followed. Ads are still a pain though- they are always for the most ratchet stuff.

I was thinking about this issue while trying unsuccessfully have a nap (it's a long weekend here) . I'm being harsh in my assessment of sneakers and bootcuts being fake-sporty. I think to bring the look out of high school and make it more modern, a sleek platform sneaker or one of those Ecco-alike solid colour sleek leather sneakers would be nice with a simple blazer or leather jacket and blouse. *That* I could get on board with. We need another word other than sneakers to differentiate all of these styles!

I think you’re right, and chunkier is the way to go with the bootcuts. I love my Adidas Superstars, and they do come in white with black stripes. They are a little chunkier, but not full-on Dad sneaks.

My personal preference would be leather, instead of suede or canvas. A little more structure to the shoe. But I love my Converse and they look great with bootcuts in the pictures you found.

Laces vs. slip-ones can be a little more streamlined looking, I think.

I decided to order the Paiges yesterday after seeing how good they look in you and Suz and others. I’ll try them again to see if I can live with the grippage on the backs of my thighs...

Ok. Now I have thought about this and wrapped my head around it a little more. I think the Converse would be a good pairing with the tee+moto jacket look. Sort of low-key rocker(??). Or also with a blazer -- where the Converse would provide more of an irregular juxtaposition.

Converse are SO flat though. I wonder how you'll actually feel in that combination? (I might be projecting here, I've tried to wear Converse in the past and every time I put them on I feel like I lose about 4 inches of height, ymmv.)

From what I know of your style, I suspect you will be happier wearing this formula with fashion sneakers as in your photo #2 rather than more gear-like styles as in #3.

I like the idea of something with a bit of a platform/substantial sole like the Vans in the find you posted. I think that might feel a little more intentional (again going on what I know of your style) and provide some oomph via height. Would it be fun to look for some Vans in a blue or green color and bookend the stripe in your hair???

I think you could also wear something like the Vans with a silky print blouse -- again for an irregular-outfit-juxataposition look.

Janet, why don't you just fold the hems under quickly and try the look with the fun sneaks that you have. I vote try your chunky sneaker first. Chucks are quite flat, although I do wear my bootcuts with my Converse hi-tops. All my sneakers are LEATHER - (accept the Dad sneakers) - which helps. Dressier.

And SarahD8, makes a fab suggestion.
