Great advice and interesting journey.

I really think that taking pictures of yourself is very helpful. Somehow they look so different than when we look in a mirror.

When I look up: lisa rowe girl interrupted, I see loads of makeup but in a faux natural style coupled with still-dark expressive brows. I agree that "natural" makeup with an edgier tougher look is more intriguing than coupling it in a cliche Taylor Momsen pairing.

ETA: I don't know what your coloring is but our member Rae has a fondness for what we call here the Urban Warrior Princess look and she likes "sour" colors. Check out some of her looks. You can get your own color choices to work for you in your chosen look.

Why don't you check out Jayne's post "Angela homework theft" and do the exercise where you imagine how you would like to be perceived when you walk into a room. Maybe for you that is dark, edgy, sometimes playful but in a cool kind of girl interrupted way.

Do what the other 3 ladies suggest & take lots of photos of yourself in the clothes that ome closest tonyour personal ideal.

You seem quite focused on the makeup that goes with your look and the contradt between Taylor Momsen & Angelina's Lisa character. There will be many other's who embody the look you're after so check out avfew more people & remember Angelina is probably one of thevfew people who is genetically blessed enough to look cool & edgy without make up.

Emily, you are really tuned in to your style more than you realize, because you've articulated it so well. Brenda and Christieanne shared some really excellent tips. I find great insight from inspiration photos, television, fashion blogs and people on the streets. Go with what gives you energy and a good feeling. You will find a lot of great support here to share your fashion journey and find your way.

Brenda gave you the advice I was going to so I will add that you could spend a day going through your closet - seperate the stuff you think is creating the look you want from the rest. Maybe you don't get rid of "everything else" but start making a list of what you want to add to replace and upgrade to your style.
Good luck!

I don't know specifically what you should wear for that style, but I would start looking for pictures of people wearing clothes that inspire you. You could cut out magazine pictures and put them in a notebook, or use something like Pinterest to save photos online. As you gather what you love, you will start to notice repeating trends in the photos.

I like clothes and fashion. I don't know how to express how I feel or who I am in my clothe, if that makes sense. I wear a lot of black. I like boots. And leather jackets. I like Taylor Momsen's clothes when they're not super trashy. I love thigh highs but don't know how to wear them. But I also love Lisa Rowe in Girl Interrupted (look her up) and she wears almost no makeup which is different from the heavier eyeliner I thought was supposed to go with "edgy". My personality is a combination of the two. Darker, edgier, quiet with a cruel streak but snarky and playful other times. I don't like romantic or delicate style on myself. I like the clothes but they aren't me. What do I wear to say that?
