Last summer, I found that bermuda shorts hitting mid-knee are perfect for a mom-on-the-go! They feel modest, classic, practical and modern all at the same time. Interestingly, my eye has adjusted to clamdiggers. Last year, I thought clams looked too tight at the knee, but I just tried on some bermudas that were too wide at the knee and made me feel boxy from the hips down. So now I'm eying my jeans and trying to decide which might work for clams this summer. Its very fun to look forward to spring and summer, isn't it?

Yes, a close to knee length bermuda/walk short can be appropriate and flop-proof, similar to a well fitting trouser/jean. Tailored city shorts can be quire modern I think, sometimes more so than capris, etc.

Thanks for the replies! I usually wear my shorts an inch or two above the knee, but I figured now (post baby) is the time to move to a longer length. I've never tried clamdiggers... but maybe it's time...

Walk shorts can absolutely be substituted for clamdiggers, skirts or jeans. How long do you like to wear your shorts? This post might be helpful:

Ok... I just reread Angie's mom-on-the-go posts and noticed that in the cropped pant outfit she mentions "walk shorts." She says they should hit at the right spot: knee length. So I guess technically shorts can be flop-proof. But has anyone tried it? Seems like most moms I see wear capris, not shorts.

Angie's 3 mom-on-the-go outfits are capri pants, skirts and dresses, right?

So I can't wear capri pants. My legs are just too darn short, and no matter what length I make the capris they always look like they're cutting me off.

Skirts and dresses are fine sometimes, but they're not always practical.

Can shorts ever work for a smart casual outfit? Especially for moms-on-the-go?
