Chiming in late as usual. Maybe it's just where I live, but I've seen maxi dresses everywhere this year. I didn't notice them last year though. Maybe we're behind on some trends in Missouri. On Memorial Day I went to an outdoor concert that the Kansas City Symphony does every year, and half the women there were in maxi dresses. I’m guessing that at my height I should probably avoid this trend though.

You're welcome Christie! (And Nicole's "AAR" is hilarious). Knew you weren’t a boho girl. Can you shorten the dress to show off those killer legs?

Very clever! I like it.

Thanks for the explanation Ana. How did I miss that lesson?

AAR is a term coined by Nicole to mean "Angie Approval Rating." Clever, huh?

Christie, I was wondering what AAR meant, too. I think it's something like how much wear you can get out of one item due to how many different ways you can wear it.

An open vamp or "low" vamp means that more of the top of your foot is exposed. For instance, these shoes have a low vamp, because if you put them on, you would see a lot of the top of your foot--the toe box is shorter:

http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/39104382/c/90.html

These on the other hand, have a high vamp (yeah, I think they may be slippers as well):

http://www.zappos.com/n/p/dp/35385752/c/621.html

If you're wearing a skirt, dress, or walk shorts, shoes that have a low vamp are good because they don't disturb the vertical line you're creating by breaking up your leg too soon. I've found that you can wear shoes that are close to your skin color, or metallics like gold or silver with higher vamps and still get away with it while wearing skirts/dresses/walk shorts. It helps if they are a sandal though, and have other openings to show off your foot.

Hope that makes sense.

Angie, I am so flattered by your compliment. Thank you.

I do not have a boho style, you are right. I thought you were meaning more that there was some fashion-based reason that I should not wear it (too short, for example).

Nicole, what is AAR? And what I open vamp? I'm not sure you ever answered that question in my thread on sandals.

Do you feel fab in a maxi day dress, Christie? It’s sacrilege for a gorgeous girl like you to cover up her legs. Also, it's very boho. You do not give me the impression that you have a bohemia style. Does that make sense, or am I batty?

No. It is one of the jersey/knit dresses that were extremely popular last year. I think it is more intended to be casual, maybe dressed up slightly for dinner out on a hot summer night.

The dress is from JCrew. They aren't selling similar ones this year, though.

Last summer, my mother-in-law bought me a navy-blue halter, jersey maxi-dress. It hits at about my ankles. I was afraid to wear it in public because I am only 5'4" (ok, barely 5'4"). Should I keep it an in-my-backyard-only dress?
