I agree with everyone that you can definitely wear minis! I also agree with those who felt it wasn't as flattering as it could be in the belly area. Have you tried the skirt with a simple black sweater that would cover that area? I know you didn't like it with the top untucked, but I'm thinking of a sweater that isn't as snug. That's always my solution when I feel that area needs some help.

I love the sweet story about this skirt, and I think you can totally rock a shorter skirt, but I agree about the fit issues. Maybe untucking or tailoring the skirt is the answer, or I'll bet you can find another fab skirt with the same vibe.

love it tucked and with the long coats.

look super skinny. try spanx to hold in the belly if it bothers.

not fond of the schoolgirl looks. but, that is only my preference. i'd rather look that a grown up powerful woman who rocks minis like nobody's bizniz...very much like you do In these pix.

I agree with all the points made here. You look great and can definitely wear a skirt this length. It's not a very short mini, and I think it looks perfectly age appropriate styled with boots, the way you've done it here. I'm 46 and would wear a skirt that length with tights and boots, and my legs are nowhere near as slender and cute as yours!

I do think I can see the fit issue in the waist. If its not something alterable, maybe you can find a replacement?

I agree with everyone else! You look great in a mini, but I might try one with a slightly different shape, or alter this one. The knit shirt looks great. I think you could also try a woven one.

I especially love the styling with tights and boots. That's one of my winter uniforms.

I'm 45 and I wear skirts and dresses at this length often. I think the key is the right footwear and tights when needed. I like this style of skirt and absolutely think you can wear this length, but I agree that the fit may be a little off around the waist - it's either sagging or pulling. True?

With your legs and figure, you can certainly wear a miniskirt, but this particular miniskirt wouldn't be my first choice for you. I think the fit looks off, and I'm iffy about the shape of the skirt. It looks a little school uniform-ish to me, and not sophisticated enough for your new style.
But I love that your husband loves it.

You look young and have great legs for the mini. Can you sit down in that skirt modestly with the tightness and front opening? That would be my concern at any age.

Miss Piggy, you are too cute! I agree with the others about the pulling at the waist. It's not bad, but maybe you can find another that will still remind hubby of that fateful night, lol!

IMO, when short skirts are worn with tights and a lower heel they look much less hoochie than with bare legs and stillettos, so you are hitting the right note with that.

One fun proportion I like is when a skirt like this is worn with a LONG ribbed turtle neck untucked. The length of the top fools the eye and makes the skirt look even shorter than it really is (without baring any more leg). Similar to your pics 25 and 26, but with long sleeves.

I like this skirt. I think if you wear it in a sophisticated way, you can definitely get away with wearing a mini. I am your age and very petite - I wear all lengths of skirts from micro mini to midi. It all depends on how you wear it. It looks nice with the boots.

You all are right...the skirt is a bit tight, but I'm squeezing into it for sentimental reasons. Great idea about letting it out a little...it is a wrap skirt, so maybe I can try that (I have had two kids, after all...)

Goldenpig, you can rock the miniskirt! And why not, for date night, when your husband loves it? Wearing it with the tall boots (and tights or bare legs) makes it a little more grown-up and less cheerleader-ish.

I do think that the fit across the front of the skirt is not quite perfect. I had a skirt like that in the 1990s. If it is a true wrap, you should be able to slide the buttons 1/4" or so to just the right spot--an easy fix to do yourself.

There was a n article in Lucky either October or Sept issue about wearing the "schoolgirl" style of skirt and how to make it work. There was also a feature on wearing the wrap skirt and how it is one of the it skirts of the season. Ann Taylor has one in a deep yellow gold color that is very similar to yours but without the front buttons.

I find that any skirt with buttons down the front has to fit perfectly to work as the buttons will not lay flat otherwise. The skirt you have is cute but those darn buttons are causing a bit of rippling across the tummy area. I tried on skirts last night and the ones with buttons did that when I moved even if they were a size too big.

If you love the skirt and want to keep it, you could have a hidden zipper added and make the buttons decorative only but that might cost more than a new skirt.

Definitely you can wear mini-skirt, you just need to do it in grown-up way. The ways you styled it here are great- paired with high boots. You can also pair it with opaque tights and shoes or short booties. I also prefer it when your arms are covered.
I agree with Deborah about the fit in the waist / tummy area: maybe you can let it out a bit?

I never heard that you can't wear skirts after 35... It's usually 40 that seems to be the line. I don't think you really need to think too much about hemlines length before 40. And even after that is not a rock solid rule. I still wear skirts / dresses well above the knee at 45. (even though after seeing some of my pictures, I'm going to tone it down a bit) It all depends on your figure and your legs. I think you still look good in that skirt and I prefer the look with a jacket.

I think you are a perfect example that minis can be worn in an age-appropriate way.

GP, I wear miniskirts and I'm 36. Is it appropriate? I don't know and I don't really care I think I am within the bounds of acceptable. Bottom line, my proportions look better in a shorter skirt.

Your skirt looks great on you, both alone and styled with jackets (I particularly like it with the long coats.). Grey is great with it (imagine grey boots! Be still my heart) and red is totally awesome with it. Black great too.

It's a very versatile skirt and I think you rock it. I don't have anything bad to say about it at all.

Sometimes things need to be put away as we get older. But I think it's more about the associations than an arbitrary "you are too old for this". I don't wear my pompom floppy socks anymore because they seem too young, playful and casual (clubwear more than streetwear). But who knows, if I develop a different association with them, or can style them in a fresh way, they may get another public outing!

I have a plaid skirt. similar length (red, yellow, orange, white and blue!) and I like it with more polished blouses as well as jersey tops. I wear it with bare legs or tights. I love the mod look of it.

If feeling self-conscious, a coat, boots and/or tights totally tone it down a notch while retaining some edge. As you've shown here

You so can rock a mini! This mini however is looking like the fit at the waist and over the tummy is not the best. Would you consider wearing your top untucked? Otherwise it could be time for a new mini. But yes you definitely can wear a mini. I'm in a rush and have to run so please excuse the brevity of my comment ....yes yes yes.

Is there still a rule against wearing miniskirts after age 35? Mo posted a picture of herself rocking a miniskirt here:
http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-for-lunch
and I was shocked to find out that she is older than I am! (I'm 38, and she looks like she's in her 20's!) So I was wondering if I can bring out my old miniskirt too! It's a plaid wool black and white mini.

I've saved it all these years because once when we were dating in college, I went to pick up my then-boyfriend (now husband) at the airport wearing that miniskirt and a black fitted mock neck (incidentally, the one I posted about looking for another replacement!) and black boots and he thought I looked totally hot. He still talks about that outfit fondly almost 20 years later! So I couldn't get rid of it. Believe it or not, I can actually still fit into it even though my tummy is a lot bigger 2 kids later. I did actually wear it last year to our 60's themed holiday office party (I went as a mod girl and DH went as a NASA geek). Although we felt underdressed, because everyone else was in groovy psychedelic mode. Anyways, Mo's post spurred me to think about pulling it out again for date night since he likes that mini so much. What do you think? (Obviously, I wouldn't wear it to work!)

Sorry for all the pictures, but I wanted to do actual pictures of all the combinations so you could see what they look like. Which option(s) if any do you like? Here are the options:
1) bare legs vs. textured gray herringbone tights
2) Plain black Nine West boots vs. shiny red Aquatalia zipper boots
3) Four different coat options: Kate Spade black ruffle trench, Anthro red corset trench, or two old coats I haven't worn in a while: a plain black leather coat and a black and white herringbone Ann Taylor coat. By the way, I'd also like to get feedback on these two coats...I haven't worn them in a long while and am wondering if they are too outdated or too big on me (they are size M and size 6)--since I joined YLF I've started wearing more fitted clothes in S and size 4's so they look a bit big to me.
4) top tucked vs. untucked (added at Deborah's request)--not sure about untucked because the top is tight and you can see the skirt buttons underneath the top when it is untucked. And it seems to highlight my love handles. Bleah. :-(
5) the last option (I'm a little scared to post these pics because this is what I'm worried about you all saying): "Pack away that mini, your tummy looks fat or you look like a hooker or an aging hoochie mama" (as Mo joked). Granted, I'm a mom now and not a bartender like Mo, but can I still wear a mini or not? (I'm sure my husband would like it if you approve though!) Yay=wear it, Nay=no way!
PS The last one is a bonus pic of me wearing a Target Missoni head scarf--fun, but thought maybe it might be too 60's though!
