Thanks, everyone! Sometimes a person can resort to desperate measures to find something to fit...but it's really not worth it. Back to the store it goes!

I agree with the other ladies that it may not shrink properly. My experience is that is becomes shorter and then feels wide. If you can I would return it and hold out for something that fits you the way you want.

Things usually shrink when you don't want them to. When you need them a little smaller, they stubbornly defy any attempts to shrink them.

If I understand correctly, you have the shirt, it doesn't fit and you could possibly take it back for a refund...I would take it back if you can...I have had NO luck in shrinking...Find something else even if it cost more...
JMO

I needed a 100% linen dress shirt so I don't die of heat stroke in church with my cami-plus-cardigan formula (since I have no ilghtweight dress shirts). I found a RL one that was on sale. Well, as usual, I bought the XS petite, but it is a size too big. Grr. What do you think the odds are that if I wash it and dry it on high, it will shrink? Care instructions are to wash warm and tumble dry low. The fact that it says wash warm makes me think it might be somewhat shrink resistant. Thoughts? It cost me $60, but I see they have it on the site now for $50, and I think I can get a price adjustment. But $50 is a lot of moolah to pay for something that isn't going to fit. I would need it to shrink about a size.
