yes I bought those too san! They will be good for me I think except you cannot wear an orthotic with them so I would probably not wear them all day.

HL are you interested in the Clark's Brulee's that some people are talking about? I see Christie tried them and wrote an excellent review.

If you love the shoes you posted, I say go for it. If you're worried that they look too much like gear, here are a few similar, but slightly less sporty Sketchers:

http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7540186/c/270.html
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7540181/c/11.html
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7540183/c/411.html
http://www.zappos.com/n/p/p/7523008/c/1909.html

Zappos has a ton of Sketchers!

Debbie,
I wear orthotics too and I didn't think those Sketchers were too bad at all. Much more stylish than some of my orthotic friendly shoes.

I have a suspicion I am going to be like you and need a cross strap. but haven't exhaustively tried flats to confirm that

thank you for all your responses ladies!

I wear orthotics for super flat feet. No arch at all. But like you Shiny, maybe I will not need them forever because I am trying to always lift my arch. I have an excellent yoga teacher who is training me to do that!

The flats that were uncomfortable were Me Toos and I do not know the style name. They are not the beloved Swanns.

They rubbed along the top front of my foot. Made a big red spot. That was really the only area that was really hurting. Maybe they will stretch over time and I will only wear them for a couple hours at a time.

I am so glad these sketchers get some thumbs up because I think they may be an eight hour shoe for me and my lifestyle really calls for that!

I seem to need some kind of a cross strap like a mary jane strap. Seems to provide more support that I need.

I don't think the shoes you posted are ugly by any means. They are very casual and verge on gear, but the gear would be for walking and doing summer activities. This is far from being those awful, colorful, clown shoes. Alot of the sketchers are pretty good looking and meet the criteria for casual summer fun like picnicing rather than uptown lunching. I would think they are somewhere between yoga shoes and ballet flats, don't you think? I wonder what Angie thinks of them?
I know a gal who has foot problems and wears only sketchers. She always wears them to coordinate in color with her slacks and sometimes they have little jewels on them. It works for her and her busy life and fussy feet.

I have these exact same shoes!! And they are comfortable, and they do work with orthotics. Dresses and skirts... I have to agree with Shana. But you NEED to worry about your health issues right now and work around that. Fashion takes a backseat to your health.

Wearing orthotics needn't be a life-long sentence, as I found. After spending most of my 20s and 30s in high heels, I can't tell you how upset I was when I was told I needed orthotics. But, I wore them for about a year, and then was able to get rid of them. And haven't needed them since (going on 3 years now?)

Okay I know I may have had different issues and <insert full disclaimer here - I am not a doctor or podiatrist!>. I am just saying that you don't really know yet that this is permanent. I got rid of the orthotics by 1) wearing them diligently for a year, as directed while 2) doing lots of yoga and other PT stuff that was recommended and 3) changing lifestyle habits that were a factor in why I needed the orthotics to begin with (including learning to gradually wear flats more frequently - and also amping up my time walking barefoot, which I have come to believe is essential to good health).

In my case, what they thought was a congenital defect (born with one leg longer than the other) turned out to ultimately be an acquired one (running on uneven surfaces, crossing my legs, wearing high heels all the time, and other bad habits... led to one hip higher than the other, which led to horrible bunions and hip and back problems, including fractures), which I rectified (but it took a year of following the doctor's orders!!!!!).

I'm getting off track.... back to my point:

Now is not the time to worry about fashionable shoes. You are in horrible pain. You have to wear an orthotic. The reality is, that limits you to shoes that ... well... aren't fashionable. End of story.

Work with it. Skip the dresses and the skirts, and wear clams or pants if fashion is still a priority - i.e., work around. Tell yourself... it's like wearing a cast. You do what you have to do. Pain means you are doing something wrong.

Listen to your doctor and your pain, and address it and confront it... if you want any chance of being able to wear the cute fashionable shoes again!! It can happen, I am proof!

Those skechers will look adorable with clamdiggers and jeans.

Happylife, I've seen people wear casual skirts with Skechers in a style very similar to these:
http://www.dsw.com/dsw_shoes/c.....038;brand=
Personally, I liked the look.

I'm a ballet flat girl myself, but they really come in all shapes, sizes, and comfort levels. What about the flats was painful? Did it hit you in the wrong place on your heel/cause blisters? Or was the sole too thin and unsupportive?

Sorry to hear that your flats didn't work out - we shouldn't have to go thru that much pain in the name of fashion!

IMHO, I don't see these working that well with skirts & dresses - they look a little too much like athletic shoes. I'm not sure if these would take your orthotics (to be honest, I don't even know what orthotics are!):

http://www.skechers.com/shoes-.....r/bbk/q/10

http://www.skechers.com/shoes-.....r/blk/q/10

To me, they look a little more dainty for wearing with skirts or dresses. I wear sandals all summer long though so I might not be the best judge. Perhaps others will have some suggestions.

I have to be able to wear my orthotics and these will work as 8 hour shoes for me with skirts and dresses if you do not think they are too ugly?

I wore some ballet flats for 8 hours while shopping in Phoenix last weekend and was almost crying from the pain at the end of the trip. I chose fashion over comfort and at the end of the day it wasn't pretty---

If they are gear or too ugly, do you have any other suggestions?
