I get it. I am ready to host an pity party for all YLFers struggling with unresolved ortho issues that are cramping their styles, limiting their days and wearing them down. Only the best champagne will be served and all will have a foot stool and time to share a tale of woe. My prediction is that it would lead to much needed hilarity and catharsis. Broke my foot overseas 6 months ago and my predicted 3 month recovery is but a pipe dream. Hate how little I can do comfortably between frequent bouts of nerve pain. Remind myself frequently that it could be worse, yet frustration abounds. Here's to a strength, patience and a speedy recovery, Isabel. As for the toe - well - it will pass, sweet lady. It takes 6 to 8 weeks and then you'll forget all about it. I have broken four toes in my life and the story is the same. You think they will never get better - and they do, all on their own. I broke one of my toes a few years ago. What a pain in the you-know-what. Mine wasn't bad enough that I couldn't walk, although I certainly couldn't walk normally; I would limp along. I had to wear open-toe sandals even into the fall, when it was really cold, because it hurt too much to put a shoe on. When I look back on it, I really should have gotten a pair of crutches, because walking with that limp did a number on my back and posture, causing pain elsewhere in my body. I am so sorry, Isabel! Broken toes may be some of the most minor of health problems, all things considered, but they certainly take a long time to heal and really affect all activities of your daily life. We don't realize how important two working, healthy feet are to our lives until something happens. I hope things get better soon! I used to feel guilty about asking God for stupid little things.  Like He would say, " Hey, I got you through cancer, what more do you want ? "   But then I realize that He is the ultimate multitasker.  Donna, not a dumb question at all.  We thought of that.  I cannot bicycle outside because of the possibility of putting my foot down hard or slipping off the pedal.  I can't use the pedal cage because my foot won't fit and I cannot wear any shoes.  BUT - I have an indoor bike.  I have started doing a bit of that now that the bruising is gone and the bottom of my foot doesn't hurt.    Peri, thank you.  You really put it so well.  That it is exactly how I have been feeling.  I haven't been able to give it voice so thank you for doing it for me. I saw the light at the end of the tunnel, I was biking with my daughter and hiking with my son after all this time....ugh.   This is going to sound crazy, but I haven't been able to keep up with cleaning well since my diagnosis.  So I have started cleaning out kitchen shelves and tossing cans and things like that. And it gives me a little feeling of normalcy.   Stylefan...yes, it revitalizes me.  I like that.   Thank you .  And for some strange reason, I am getting some solace from Carter. It's not that it is a toe and therefore small and trivial...it is that you survived hard things and were seeing some light, and really feeling like the hard things were behind you, and then feel like you have lost it again. Who wouldn't be down about that? So sorry and I hope the healing goes better than expected. Anything you can be indulgent with while waiting...something that makes you feel better? I am so thankful your post was not about a recurrence of your cancer which is what I feared before reading it.  It is weird how even minor injuries like paper cuts and hangnails can be nearly as painful as major ones. The concentrated energy of YLF WILL make that toe heal properly!  Hang in there. I've (presumably) broken my toe at least twice in the past two years or so. It's these "dumb" accidents, involving the feet and legs that make us mobile and active, that can be so aggravating and stifling.  I didn't want to dump an injury report here when it happened, but about 2.5 weeks ago I stupidly missed a step going downstairs at my parents' place and sprained my ankle. Really really badly. I've had another bad sprain before that just gradually got better on its own (while we were traveling in Italy, so I really didn't have a choice but to keep moving). So this time I just carefully kept up with the walking and (sheepishly admitting) the tango dancing. Swelling did not go down so finally this past Friday I went for an x-ray and it turns out I have a hairline fracture! I feel quadruple-y stupid. Plus I put my foot through so much initial stress, at this point I almost feel like it doesn't matter what I do, LOL. The pain and swelling have finally started to subside, and now everyone's telling me to stay off it and barely walk. I'm faced with complying or not, and worrying that I will cause permanent damage either way.  Longwinded way of expressing sympathy for your plight! I know that this is not fun. I had a wound on my left foot a few years ago and it didn't close. I couldn't wear normal shoes and whatnot and the doctors were all bummed because they had no idea why I wasn't healing properly. It took ten weeks or so, for something that normally should have been better in a few days... The pressure of research is just so enormous.   I will definitely give you a heads up next time I am in there.  Suz, OUCH !  I am in one of the boots and have been since the night I broke it.  It broke in a weird way :  the bone now looks like a wishbone.  But it is not lucky in any way !  LOL   Yes, the getting older thing is tough and I lost bone mass because of the cancer treatments.  Which reminds me, I am so lucky that it wasn't my spine or hip.   :  )  Laura, you really described it well.  I do feel really fit mentally and I was starting to feel better physically so I am really frustrated.   Thank you ladies, I am feeling better already.
