Thanks again for more encouragement!

Krishnidoux - I was tucking averse because I felt that any tucking lower than my natural waist would shorten my legs and make my torso look longer (and I don't now own any highwaisted trousers, so was only tucking skirts)

That is my recent issue anyway. for a long time before that I was just reacting to the fact that in my mid teens my favourite jeans outfit was high waisted jeans belted at the natural waist with a blue paisley baggy skirt tucked in and a matching plain blue long sleeve tee worn under and showing at the wrist and neck! Looking back I thought the silhouette made me look like an insect!

Tuck off, hee! You look great. I also have a long torso (much more tummy sadly) and when I tuck it definitely emphasizes that, which I've had to adjust my eye to. I think it works best with full-length pants or anything where there's not a visual break midway down the leg (long skirt, shorter skirt with tonal tights or boots, etc).

Anne, not only can you "get away" with tucking, but you SHOULD tuck.

Seriously. This is where having a long torso and smaller bust can actually be an advantage. You look "willowy" and graceful.

Yes, a million times yes! Looks great!

Irene, I have that combination too, but I find tucking most successful on me when I wear lower-waisted pants/jeans/skirts. High-waisted tucking is not my friend.

It's because you have a longer torso and a smaller bust that you can carry off tucking. Try doing that with my set of long legs, short torso and big boobs... total failure lol

ok to the tune of the Pointer Sisters: "yes you can, can oh yes you can can!
Not only can you - but let's show off that waistline!
An idea to try - the blouse you are wearing has a lot of nice drape to it - maybe try lossening the tuck , and draping a little more? It creates a softer line - which I think can be more flattering.

Okay, now I can really see that the matronly figure you were bemoaning recently was just a function of posture and the skirt. My goodness, this makes you look fantastic! No matron here at all! Yes, feel absolutely free to tuck.

Anne, you are way too hard on yourself. You are a very, very pretty woman with a great figure. Look at yourself with a much less critical eye; you will be closer to reality that way.

Yes do!

You can definitely pull this off and I think it sure qualifies as a style goal that is worth tweaking--meaning, worth investing in creating some outfits/capsules in this direction. Wider belt for sure both because it does better with the loops of the jeans but also because it deserves more emphasis. Wear the outfit when belt-shopping so you can try on and check for contour, softness of the leather, buckle size, how much it sticks out and so forth--the perfect belt can really help you feel more confident untucked as it supports (!) the look you're going for. Some kind of fitted (tailored fit!) jacket /blazer with some structure would go fabuloso. I don't think you have to just think "cropped"- I would be thinking structure as the defining term, and there might be lengths that you find more or less flattering. For more casual looks, you might find the right utility jacket--but slightly fitted, not deer-hunter. I don't think the monochrome look is a problem because you can lighten up with accessories.

Go for it!

Ha, you funny girls! I think the word *off* was too close to the word *tuck* that's all. :)

Anne, you are in such great shape and I think you absolutely should tuck your shirts in. While your eye is criticizing your vertical proportions, someone else will be admiring your flat stomach which you have hidden lo these many years. I think a shorter cropped jacket will help the proportions further.

Yay for team tuck! You look great. I'm starting out slow on team tuck myself and it's an adjustment. I'm so used to letting my shirts hang out and lately I'm finding that it's extremely flattering to tuck them in with certain outfits, particularly when you want to showcase an outer layer (I've been wearing peplum jackets for example).

Shevia - yes I think the cardi might be falling off. I didn't really know what to wear on top as I would have like something white - the outfit felt a bit dark to me - and that grey cardi was the best I could do. Then the rain started bucketing down and I just went with the puffer!

I have been tucking averse for pants and jeans for ages, so this is quite a leap for me.

I ended up wearing my puffer over the whole thing so no one saw me anyway, but I was quite nervous about heading out of the house in this!

Comments, criticism and suggestions welcome.

I have one big comment myself, which is that I am worried that this emphasis how long in the rise I am. These are quite high rise pants, but they just cover my hip bones

PS sorry about the picture quality - I took quite a few shots on the new camera and these were the best of a bad and blurry lot. I had to really rush to get in the picture - thus the facial expressions!

ETA - I thrifted the belt yesterday! $1.50 for a fake patent one. DD4 and I went to 5 op shops looking for a belt and a no front seam denim skirt (unsucessful at that one). DD ended up with a swimming skirt, a pink cardi and a some red sequined shoes! Decent kid's clothes get snapped up fast in our town so that was a good haul.
