GGB and Vix, you rang?

I have a friend who is a CAbi consultant and buy a few pieces every season. The ones I have bought are very flattering and definitely get a lot of use. They are not cheap, but they really do last.

Like I said, I just buy a few pieces. It depends on your consultant - my friend knows I am freakishly picky and have my own weirdnesses about what I will and won't wear, so she leaves me to my own devices.

I went to a party once where the consultant was pushy and annoying. Actually, the annoying part was worse.

I really like the jacket on you and think it would definitely give you a waist. Their return policy is pretty flexible - my friend says she would rather take something back than have you leave something in your closet - that doesn't do the brand (or you) any good.

[Hi GGB; nice to hear your voice again!]

Dakota --

You are too kind; trust me, it's the tops. For me to self-identify as anything other than a Rectangle I'd need to hips that curved out instead of running straight down and something resembling junk in my trunk.

To add to GGB's info, I have a friend who wears a lot of CABI as well [we may be thinking of the same person!] and as long as the fit works for you I think you'll be happy with the quality.

I've seen some of my friend's things in person and thought they were really flattering and decently made. [Hers are definitely workhorses.] Hopefully the two you are waiting for are a success, and if you decide on these they will work out too!

I like the jacket in both colors (especially white). But I'm not crazy about the top on the left. The right top is OK but it looks unforgiving to me unless you have 6-pack abs. (Or, unless you plan to wear a shaping cami underneath. I love those!)

Dakota, please let us know how they work out for you. I'm a stay at home mom and don't have much time to shop. Ever since a friend introduced me to CAbi (a few years ago), I buy a few pieces every season and they are my standby-s when I need something that looks nice and is flattering. In fact, I wore a CAbi top to our school auction tonight.

I'm so glad to hear from someone that also uses CAbi! This is my first venture into CAbi, attending the first showing just last week. I have followed that jacket since the launch of the spring line and it's just as gorgeous in person. I did order two items (not these) and am anxious for them to come in. Thank you for posting GGB!!

CAbi tops are super flattering -- I think you will be pleasantly surprised. I have the tank and am thinking about the jacket. If I remember correctly it has some nice details in the back as well.

oooooooo! I got a thumbs up from Angie!! Combine that with all the others who are encouraging, I do believe I will become the owner of that jacket......and maybe even the blouse.

Vix, you do not look like a rectangle in those photos!! You have a real figure. Is that all really from your choice of tops? If yes, that's impressive. I have always covered my waist with a second layer, even in our TX summer - yikes!! Oh, and yes, the jacket has princess seaming in the back. These are CAbi items so I'll need to check on the return policy.

Thanks for all the input! It helps me clarify what to look for when shopping.

Hi Dakota --

As a Rectangle I *look* for items like the jacket and first top. I always say if it's not rouched or draped I'm trying to get it altered so it does, ha!

It's too bad the jacket is straight across in the back -- any chance it has curved seaming back there? Even if not I'd try it for the front; between the deep V neck, the wrap-over style, the pocket on the waist and the diagonal cut at the hips I think it will look great unless it's all too much of a good thing. ;)

Many stylists suggest empire tops for Rectangles, so I'd definitely experiment and see how the cling factor works for you; I have several. [I'm really short-waisted so stick to hip belts, but I do have a smaller -- if undefined -- waist and I'm a-gonna show it. ]

FWIW, here's a ancient pic of the empire waist + rouching (scoop neck variation) on me (pic 1)

I don't wear many wovens, but for the ones I have and like to wear alone or "lightly layered" I always look for rouching or details that fake a waist. (pics 2-3)

You can also go the other direction and look for banded, bigger-volume silky (or knit) tops that obscure your waist...by putting the focus on the hips it makes the waist look smaller. Allegedly, anyway! (pic 4-5)

Have fun figuring out which of the zillion Rectangle tips and tricks feel "right" to you! Hope you'll share the winners with us.

I'm a rectangle and I think the jacket might work. It has some curved lines and a little bulk to give more shape. I think the second blouse might work better than the first. Wrap tops seem to work on my rectangle shape, I think it's the diagonal lines.

You never know until you try!! Why not try everything?! Even if it doesn't work you'll learn something about what works and what doesn't. I've put on plenty of things that turned out to look ridiculous in the dressing room! But sometimes I'm surprised too!

Really, I think you should try it on and see. Sometimes I think something will look amazing on me and it looks awful, and then the other way round. The blouse on the left though, I think it looks bad even on the model, so I don't know :S

I like the jacket. It seems like it is designed to "create" a waist. For some reason, I think that would be flattering on a rectangle. (I tend toward rectangle as well and I think I could wear that jacket.) The tops, I'm not so sure about. I think the deep V is a good thing but I'm not sure that there is enough drape across the mid-section to give the illusion of a waist.

I love this jacket but my concern is the back is cut straight across and hits me at my waist. I thought I read somewhere that a rectangle shouldn't wear anything that's cut at the waist??

The tops are very form fitting and I don't know if they will accent my rectangle or give it a 'fake' waist. Would I be better off with a woven top? I would love some guidance from you because I'm still in training for an objective eye.
