YES. One purchase or change can definitely spark a whole shift in how I see my space or wardrobe, and give me the energy to do something about it.

Totally get this. We moved from an Arts and Crafts house in the center of a town to a brand new Alpine-inspired house surrounded by trees.

Not appliance based wardrobe epiphany, yet I can totally relate to the concept. I did base a dystopian wardrobe and the design of my house off of a pic of a rusty car in a desert. #TrueStory

I can completely relate. We moved recently, and given that my older child is in middle school, we’re hoping to stay where we are for at least 9 more years. It’s a home we love, and we’re not likely to ever live in anything larger, so it’s been very freeing to get rid of lots of “what if” items, in both our kitchen and my closet.

What I noticed was not so much being driven to get a lot of new things for o if the house, but more a distillation—Tver parts of kitchen it the rest of the house— although I’m sure that would happen if/ when we actually remodel — but that I have been able to acknowledge what I’m really using, what things I don’t need to hang on to, how I only have so much time in the day/ week and can pare down more.

So that’s what’s carrying over to fuel my closet edit.

Oh yes. It relates back to my whole thing about matching the architecture of my environs and so forth. I mean, drawer pulls can send me off on a quest. Moving from Hipsterville to an Arts and Crafts house has completely altered how I put things together, I feel.

Yeh,l think that whenever you get anything new be it shoes or fridges it brings everything else into comparison and makes one question whether or not you need other new things to complement your new purchase.

This reminds me of what I posted recently about the sudden realization that I had fridge /pantry orphans, like oatmeal, eggs, etc bought to make oatmeal cookies that never happened because I didn’t have the vanilla.

I totally get it. A new appliance or piece of furniture can definitely spark a clear-out and that kind of thing spreads to other parts of your life. It makes sense that it's something fairly small, too. As we prep for a move, I'm culling like crazy, but it's so big I don't really have the energy to think about larger questions of style. I'm sure that'll come next year when I'm settling in the new location and dealing with a new climate.

Or maybe a wardrobe edit inspiration.

The fridge died, and we had to get a new one, not a good time ( is it ever), since we desperately need to remodel the kitchen but aren’t close to having the bandwidth to start that. And I might not even have got the “ right” one, as I did not research or shop extensively.

Bu this isn’t about appliances and their pros and cons. It’s that this new item, while of course it’s going to make rest of the space look shabby, and maybe should spark a kitchen re- do or want to buy new kitchen things. But for now it has kind of created a new streamlined thinking and made it easier to toss OUT a lot of kitchen things ( this is not even knowing what I might later end up with) and somehow along with that has helped me do more wardrobe culling.

I mean it would make a lot of sense if I’d remodeled a room or done over the closets and were carefully editing for that, but really it seems like deciding what I put in the refrigerator and where has also started energizing those wardrobe culling booster phrases like, “ would I buy this again” or, is this where I’m going, what do I really prefer to wear, etc, or, like LBD posted, focusing and simplifying to some extent. Kind of like, , “ would the person who made this salad wear that?”

Anybody else had the experience of an appliance- wardrobe epiphany?!
