Going to chime in here as I'm batting for team squishy IT ;). How slouchy are we talking about? I'm not sure if this counts but remember the EF pants I raved about (but never got because it will not last a Canadian winter)?

http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....pymatronly

I think it's called the slouchy viscose jersey pant. If these are still in style by spring next year, I'm grabbing them.

Slouchy pants never EVER look right on me except for these (the other EF slouchy silk pants with pleats don't look good either). Maybe worth looking into?

Una: that list - so I'm not crazy then. Back in my frockstar days, Tahari dresses are odd on me, and Theory is just weird... Zara also has narrow shoulders on me too!

If you're looking into jackets, I've had the best luck with Ann Taylor. My only issue? It's too modern classic for me.

ETA: the said EF pants: http://www.eileenfisher.com/Ei.....cale=en_US

HA! So much easier to list all the brands that usually I CAN'T wear, at least jackets and wovens. So, here's that list:

j. crew
Theory
Nordstrom's cheapo trendy brands, like Wayf
Tahari
Zara

Shoulder-friendly:

Vince

Er, yeah. I'm sure others will contribute more.

Recognizing that she is a teen, though...

F21 is a mixed bag. Sometimes they fit me surprisingly well.
Gap often fits well
Old Navy is also randomly OK

Yay for YLF and the power of suggestion, LOL!! :)

I am also reading this eagerly for my DD's sake. At almost 15, she is suddenly interested in clothes and she wants to develop a style. Fortunately, she loves BF jeans and those seem to work well on her. So the bottom part is relatively easy.

But she clearly has the IT broad shoulder line, which makes tops and jackets more difficult. Especially button downs.....which, naturally, are the only things she currently wants to wear! If they fit in the shoulder they are too big everywhere else. (She is small busted).

At just a fraction of a cm. taller than me now, she's not truly petite, but she is definitely on the short side, and that does complicate matters a bit.

Anyway -- would love a list of brands and styles that really work for shorter ITs. Um...other than Burberry, that is. I don't think I am going to spring for that!! :)

Shiny, you, AK & Kellygirl need to keep me from coveting what looks great on y'all -- and avoid what I say works for me! We have completely opposite body types. Of course, that didn't keep me from ordering a tree patterned shift dress from Nordstrom that reminded me of AlaskaGirl and would have looked great on her. Made me want to gag when I saw it on me although it technically fit.

YES, I was wondering if it was the height issue. Or the drape. The styles I've tried on are mostly in fabrics that seem to cling in a not flattering way. And yes there is the waist issue-- too tight and it wants to do the Urkiel look with poofy belly going on there -- which these PJ jeans do if I hike them up... difference is they don't stay hiked... they slouch down naturally? But I also note they are cut much narrower in the hips so I have to wonder there.

SHINY! You are making me blush - seriously, your thorough answers and analyses of everyone's questions including mine are a huge part of what has helped me get anywhere stylewise. I was so glad when you made your comeback. "Slow-wash influence" - hahaha! My DH would call it nagging.

I don't know why the R&B sweats work so well - I definitely have narrow hips and a flat backside but I think they also have a nice soft drape that denim wouldn't. I would LOVE to find the right slouchy trousers you describe; it's been my ongoing quest. I've found jersey and sweatpant styles that work, but nothing more dignified like wool or cotton, Same with the cross-over look. All I can think is that the more structured styles suit an hourglass better? Or perhaps a height issue for us - not enough leg to balance out all the material between "waist" and crotch"? Somehow the sweatpant jeans just WORK.

You, Kellygirl and I are all built along the same lines for sure.

So many times over the years you recommend something here and it turns out to work really well for me. I think it is because we have similar IT body shapes. I am never going to be as edgy and RATE as you, but I always follow your posts super closely!

This is not just a thank you -- for the pajama jeans and the loafers I just added (oh and my Burberry, which I'd never have chanced without your slow-wash influence over the years) -- but also a specific question:

I really want to add some drop waisted slouchy trousers. Not denim (or pajama jeans), as I've got that covered. Something I could wear to work.

I have tried on a lot in the stores and nothing works, even in petite sizing (BR, AT). These pajama jeans have me wondering if it's something to do with hips-- I am narrow there and it seems the styles are for more shapely hips? Or maybe it is some other niggling detail I am missing. Thighs? Rear? I thought it was my apple belly that was the problem but even if I scrunch way down, the trousers don't fall right on me and it's just not a good look. Is it my height/ vertical proportions? The fabrication? Something specific about the cut? What???

Brand recommendations or other guidance on what to look for?
