Usually I go opening night but not always. I've seen cargo shorts on a guy who also perched his sunglasses backwards on his neck. This was for Porgie and Bess in August on a warm day.<br /> I've also seen nylon track pants. Can't remember the performance.<br /> Also I always see multiple people in jeans.<br /> I try and get there an hour early get a glass a wine. After I started this thread, I started to think about friends of mine who have excellent reasons for dressing down at the opera:</p> <p>- one has major foot issues and has to wear orthopedic shoes...so she usually wears baggy slacks to cover them up</p> <p>- one takes the ferry from Bremerton, walks up to the Seattle Center to the Opera House, and does the same thing in reverse when the curtain falls at the end of the opera</p> <p>I guess there is always another side to the story!</p> <p>Oh, almost forgot!! I agree Charmian, the second article (that is cited in the blog) was excellent, very well-written and informative.
