Michelle, I read the descriptions prior to looking at the bag, so I can tell you that they really described it well. The one thing I would say is that the X formations go across what I would call the "ends" of the bag rather than the "sides." (When I hear about the "side" of a bag, I imagine the biggest surface -- the one you would photograph if you were taking a picture of the bag, whereas the "ends" are the places where the two largest sides of the bag are joined together.)

Very nice bag! The way the X-straps wrap around the ends is very cool.

Michelle, obviously I think it's a KILLER bag in black. You need a longer shoulder drop in order to handle Reva and this shape fits the bill perfectly. Plus it's a magnificently made bag with purple lining!

This is a lovely bag. The bag looks like a basic rectangle wrapped with leather on each side with the edges finished. Each wrappping leather piece covers about a third of the bag on each side so that a third of the basic bag is exposed in the middle and forming part of the outer pocket. It's all the same type and color of leather. The straps that form an X on each end of the bag have another short strap with a small metal prong covering the middle of the X vertically. The 8 metal grommets that the X straps come out of are oblong in shape to accomodate the width of the straps. I hope this makes sense. The result gives the bag texture even though it probably sounds busy.

I want to add that the strap corseted sides are sitting on a patch of leather (which matches exactly the main leather). Think of a square piece, folds over and covers the side (or the edges) of the bag. THen the corset straps weaves through this patch. So from the front you see the portions of the 2 patches ( one on the left, and one on the right side), each takes about 1/3 of the real-estate width wise, with about the leftover 1/3 of the bag uncovered. Also, the patches start about 1 inch below the top of the bag and goes to the bottom. The uncovered top section is where the horizontal leather strap sits (this is what Kate described in her last sentence).

The other piece of hardware is the small squarish logo plate in the center bottom.

I'm sure someone else will have a better description, but I'll take as stab at it.

"strap corseted sides" means that on each side of the bag there are two about 1" thick leather straps that cross diagonally, forming an X that intersects on the side of the bag. Looking at the bag straight on, we can see the right half of the X on the left 1/3 of the bag, and the left half of the X on the right 1/3 of the bag.

Each of these 1" thick (or so) leather straps "comes out" of a silver metal grommet that protects a small hole in the side of the bag. So there are a total of 8 metal grommets, 4 on the front and 4 on the back. There are both a silver buckle and a silver D ring on the shoulder strap. The rest of the detailing is in the cut of the leather, so there is not a lot of hardware involved. There is another leather strap (similar to the side corset straps) around the top of the bag.

Does that help at all?

I've been convinced to invest in my first real statement bag, and the person who told me to do so (who's first name starts with A and whose last name rhymes with Blocks) even told me to get it in black!
I've been steared towards this bag, which fortunately happens to be on sale at the moment:
http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/31.....ltback=338

I have every faith in Angie, obviously, and am sure she's chosen wisely fo rme....I would just like to call upon your collective descriptive powers to help me out with something. Could someone kindly explain to me what "strap corseted sides" means? And also explain what kind of hardware we're dealing with, and how much of it there is?
Any details you can provide would be most welcome as I wait in anticipation for my bag to arrive!
