Planning for first day back at school is always fun! Your university sounds very much like my high school - anything goes, really. What we normally will get comments on is dressing up too much, but only in a friendly manner of course. I wore a dress with blazer and pumps for my first day (meetings). When I met my own students I wore a blue A-line skirt, a cream white lace tank and a coral cardigan. I wore flat sandals because this was a one to one-setting, and I didn't want to come across as formal. When I met them as a class, I wore a cream pencil skirt and a flowery blouse in neutral colors. I also wore ballerina flats. This worked out fine for me, and I felt good about my looks. I've added some photos of what I'll typically wear for work.

Good luck with your planning!

This year (with three little boys) I will have a daycare drop off, jk drop off and gr 1 drop off before getting to my own school so I decided to attempt to minimize morning strees by preplanning my outfits. I made a list yesterday of the outfits I will wear for the first 3 weeks of school. Day 1 is still a toss up...either my red Gap modern boot trouser (from clearance section $29) with a navy wrap top (also Gap clearance $12) OR a hunter green silky top (Joe Fresh) with AT Loft cropped patterned pants (I think they were called lace pattern or something like that). On my feet i will be wearing my new Franco Sarto nude platform pumps that I am so excited to say I paid $35 (marked down from $139). Can you tell I'm excited about the fall sales??

Thanks, Louise! I have to admit, it is a somewhat selfish plan in that I rarely sleep well the night before school starts and I am usually so tired AND wired in the morning that it sure does save my bacon to know that I just have to put on something with red and black!

I wear an outfit in my school colors each year - it's my subtle nod to school spirit. Thankfully, the school colors are red and black!

I have a great red and black dress that I am planning to wear. It's sleeveless, which is good because it's supposed to be a hot week. I've also got new black sandals to wear with it. I'll post a photo on Tuesday, our first day (Monday is a holiday for us in Canada).

I'm in school based childcare, Monday is a teacher training day so I will be attending in jeans. Tuesday when the children are back in I think I will wear my new brocade look cropped black trousers and floaty aubergine shirt. It's still quite warm here too so I will be painting my toenails a darker colour to reflrct the change in season x

ETA- and I'll be switching my handbag and shoes to darker colours too x

I am not a teacher, but I always loved the first week back to school, even in college. New clothes, new people, sort of like a new start. Have fun next week.

Yay! Glad I'm not the only one...Ceit, may I ask what you're planning on wearing?

I had a bunch of meetings last week with faculty and students, and one of the things I feel very conscious of is not being overdressed while still trying to look like I care and take my work seriously - our university is very casual. I participated in a faculty meeting and wanted to look put together, but not too formal, so I wore nice pants, a cute sleeveless top, and a cardi. I made a point of wearing flats instead of sandals. The faculty showed up in anything from shorts and birkenstocks to cute summer dresses to suits (though the one guy wearing a suit was wearing clogs which he actually took off during the meeting...). Come to think of it, I don't know why I worried about it - anything goes!

What are you wearing for the first day of school? I've got so many fall outfits planned, but of course, it will be too warm to wear them on Tuesday.

For me, one of the great things about being a teacher (or in my case, graduate teaching assistant) means that I still get to carefully select a "back-to-school" outfit, but I haven't quite settled on one yet. Does anyone else get excited about what to wear on the first day?
