Surprisingly, they are the NYDJ brand. I typically have found this brand to look dowdy on me...but these do not. They don't have the super low rise that many of the brightly colored jeans seem to have, and I have been looking and trying for quite some time. I bought the blue and red and am waiting for the red UOs (ala Jonesy) to arrive for comparison. Oddly, I cannot find these NYDJs on the Nordstrom website or anywhere else online -- but they were in my store. The tag just refers to them as NYDJ/Ankle, if anyone is interested. Great fabric. However, they did not fit me well at all. You have the advantage of owning a pair of pants that also did not fit me so well, so here's the details: they were too stiff and too tight in the waist, but the calves were too baggy. And they fit weirdly in the rise for me. I agree they run small, and I saw very little difference between the 27 and the 28. I also did not love the twill material. They did not have much give, but I didn't keep them long enough to know if they would stretch. Here's what I can tell you about the size: they run small - I had to go up one size. They have a midrise - hit me about an inch below my belly button. I dont' think they are very stretchy - I've probably worn mine at least a dozen times this summer so far, and they have not stretched out at the knee or butt.
