Just to add, I can't do cap sleeves but strapless works really well as an IT.

Here is me in the orange shift dress. Because I have no waist this surrender look is better for me and doesn't require shape wear!

Shift dresses with a slight a line and no sleeves or well fitting shoulders. I will see if I can find a link of my favorite orange lace dress.

I agree with April as well. A v neck is great but I think harder to find at the moment. I quite like the one Aquamarine posted - very tempting to order for a "just in case" dress and they come in petite.

Agree with April's comments.

Not sure her size/weight or budget, but have her check out the Lands End Ponte sheath for a flattering day dress that can be accessorized up or down:

http://www.landsend.com/produc...../id_242219.

The picture does not do it justice. As a busty 5'4" IT, I find it flattering, forgiving (love that Ponte fabric) and inexpensive, especially with their constant 30% off promotions. Your friend would probably need a petite.

I'm a 5'2" IT as well, and have also been shopping for a dress for summer wedding. I wish I had more great suggestions to share. I kind of got stuck on that Helmut Lang one we were all drooling over http://www.matchesfashion.com/product/193332# but it's way more than I wanted to spend. Plus it's, you know, white, and I'm not the bride at this wedding.

But here are some observations.

1. Bustiness can create a box-like, old school maternity-wear shape when a dress is too straight or trapeze-y, so look for some waist definition.

2. High necklines are overly enboobening, so look for a V.

3. Avoid spaghetti straps and look for something with wide straps (if you're going sleeveless) or even a cap sleeve. I know Angie feels those are often unflattering, but if they're not unflattering on your arms, I find they compliment the IT shape fairly well.

You're after something like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Helmut.....75316850?p or this http://www.ebay.com/itm/HELMUT.....0-/1311750 rather than something like this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Helmut.....5-/3710522

or this:

http://www.ebay.com/itm/NWT-39.....8143?pt=US

I seem to be in a Helmut Lang box at the moment, but you get the idea.

A very dear friend needs a new dress for a wedding and is struggling to find options to flatter her figure. I am sending her Angie's guidelines for dressing an IT. I'd love to send her some suggestions for dresses. Any ideas out there? Think semi-casual day wedding, but she is definitely a dress girl. Thanks!
