Thanks Bijou! I’m going to order a 9US which should be a 41 Euro. The 10 US I have says 42 Euro on the shoe.

I have only ever bought Docs based on the EU sizing and found them to be spot on. Like Echo I am an 39EU - but always thought that translated to a 9US size, not 8US. I recommend trying a size down before deciding which Docs to keep.

Thanks Echo and Diana.
That’s my worry about going down a size. I appreciate your advice.

I find that Docs are true to European sizing. I almost always wear a 39EU, and I wear an 8US/6UK/39EU in Docs. I generally wear an 8.5 US, and can almost never size down to an 8US. So they have never seemed true to US sizing for me, but they fit beautifully in EU sizing.

I always have this problem too! As far as I know, most Docs don't come in half sizes. I think the question you have to ask yourself is HOW they're too big (length or width), because going down a full size will make them significantly shorter as well as less roomy around the foot. For me, the full size down is almost always going to be too short, and potentially still too high volume. For the record, the one pair of Docs I own, I sometimes put TWO sets of insoles in each and wear thick socks and they're still bordering on too roomy.

But I agree that the specifically women's styles tend to be a little narrower, if width is the issue.

Thanks Tanya and Runs. I will try them with Green Superfeet insoles. Probably will keep them as I plan for winter socks too.

Doc Martens sizing is confusing. :/. There are no half-sizes*, and some people are adamant that you can size down a full size, and some will be equally adamant that you cannot. And of course, feet are three-dimensional, we find different things comfortable, etc.

All that said -- the unisex styles tend to run a bit bigger than the women's styles, and I've heard that the made in UK ones are also a bit smaller. For myself, I am a true size 11 (US women's) and I find that I like size 11/UK9 best for all boots and for women's oxford styles, but can sometimes size down to a 10/UK8 for unisex oxfords and the platform oxford styles. And yes, insoles and heel pads can help with fit when you can't size down. Hope that helps!

*at least in the US -- I think they do carry a few (but not all!) half-sizes in the UK.

I would recommend that you order half a size down as well, and then compare the two. I would try them with right insoles, socks, etc. and then decide which size to keep and which to return.

Just purchased my first pair of Docs.
I ordered a size 10 and they seem a little big. I normally wear a 9.5 to 10 in other brands. I prob will put an insole in there.
Should I size down?
