I don't use pinterest that often either, but I did the same as caro - every time I got a 'we thought you might like this' pin, I flagged it as unhelpful, and quite soon they stopped appearing at all.

Wow, I would be frustrated too. I too got the "thought you would like" pins. We are at the beginning of a total re-do of our yard so I had been using Pinterest pretty heavily. It seemed the more I used it the more I got. So annoying. Really takes away the coolness of the site.

I don't mean to hijack the thread but has anyone tried Sprinpad? I use it for recipes and weekly menu planning. I have thought about using it for outfit/shopping ideas. I don't like the iPad interface and that is where most of my clothes browsing happens so I haven't. It is more complex but there is more control over how to organize your information.

Yikes. I don't use Pinterest much. And every now and then, a member of the forum complains bitterly about Pinterest, so I'm always wary of it. I've just been copying things to my iPhoto albums so as to keep use of the board to a minimum.

I remember rae had this or a similar problem. They started doing it with my account too but I did what you did - kept flagging their pins as not helpful & they stopped. A real pain, but I guess something that successful is bound to have advertising eventually

I've been in all of their test groups so far, I think. I feel like using it changes week to week! The board notifications thing is especially annoying. They don't actually have a lot of suggested pins for me, but it's enough that I do wish we could opt out of that one.

That sounds rotten! I feel really lucky that I was not part of that test group. I know someone else here was subjected to that too, I can't recall who it was now. I don't blame you one bit. That would ruin it for me. That's the whole point of Pinterest, if you ask me. No one else knows what I want to pin but ME.

I never really got into Pininterest, so I am no help.

Still, I think it wise to deactivate your account. You sound frustrated, and that is not something fun or that I would want to use my free time for!

I'm also getting board-only notification display of pins.
How do we complain? {not that it will help :-/}

ETA - got there, it was convoluted.

Pinterest is at it again.

They select a group on pinners to try out a change - with no permission or explainable reasoning given to those pinners.

I had to go through the first, "We thought you would like this pin" test group - fighting back by saving a copy of my pinners and then unfollowing them all.

With no pins from my friends showing, all the "We thought you would like" pins flooded my board. I then started flagging each one they pinned for me and explained how creepy I thought it was for them to do this. Pointing out why the pin they chose did not resemble my preferences at all. The support staff was very sloppy and unhelpful. Resistant and even mean.

This went on for weeks, until general outrage forced an end to the posts by Pinterest.

Now, I know the employees have to earn their keep and come up with good ideas. But when the ideas aren't in line with the goal of the site - individual choice, I feel trampled on.

Pinterest has now lost me. I have deactivated my account.

Their new "idea" changes the notification display of pinners. I don't see what was pinned, only the board it was pinned to. So if I want to see which of my pins was repinned I have to go to the board and hunt for it. Again, not my choice. Again, someone's idea of how to MAKE me look for other pins.

I complained, and was told I was part of a test group and could not opt out, so I deactivated. I am so relieved not to be fighting with the youngsters earning their keep.

Marketers on Pinterest will only be selling to each other at this rate.
