Janet - I’ve always loved your shag style, it adds that edgy component to your look but I get how our hair sometimes wont cooperate. I’m not a big styling products user myself, my hair is fine and just gets limp with too much product in it. The new layers look light and modern. I’m frustrated with my hair lately. I like the idea of my shag cut but it rarely behaves the way I want it to — I’m stuck wishing my hair were either straighter or curlier. Maybe I need to be using some other kind of styling product or maybe I need to grow it out a bit? Never knew it was called a short shag!:-) To answer your question:-  Not too often-but I had straight  long hair then a permed wavy hair like in  Charlie's Angels:-) in my youth, than cut my hair to a short shag in college but grown it out to the end of my university years, again. Then have had a medium bob when started working and family life. My hair seems to evolve - often to do with the styling rather than a major change in cut. As I have gotten older, I wear my hair shorter, but it's still shoulder length, it seems to climb up shorter by a couple of inches each decade. When I feel like a change, I am most likely to have a few more layers put into my hair and add a new colour into the mix. Minaminu- I haven't gone completely grey yet, but I get the dilemma on whether to colour it or not. Sharan- I have heard of the bixie and maybe this could be a bixie as it started as a bob and we kept the length but just added more layers on top and through the sides and back. She just referred to it as a short shag cut. My hair has a fine texture but according to my stylist I have a lot of hair and its fairly wavy too. Here's a photo of the back, although the bright lighting distorts the colour of my hair in this photo but I hope its of help to you. I feel exceptionally boring with my pixie. I had long hair after having 2 of my children and I cut it all off at age 35 before having the third child. It has been similar ever since. It was only ever dyed with a box dye once at age 45 then I let it grey naturally. So mostly the colour and the texture have changed. I need a cut every 6-7 weeks to feel like myself. It can be nice to let the natural waves do their thing.  I've just gone back to my shorter pixie. I keep the same overall style (always a pixie) but switch up the type of pixie every couple of months.
