Thanks anchie, gigi and Laura G! I did buy the dress and tried it on at home and feel happy about it, so I'm glad for all the support from here to help me make that decision!

When I got to the last two pictures I thought, "Bad posture!". (I know you exaggerated for the photo.) But even then I didn't notice the tummy--had to remind myself to look because it's what you asked about.

I'm with anchie...I would not have noticed the tummy issue if it hadn't been pointed out. Also, as others have said, when we sit, we all get a bulge there. Even people who are very thin suddenly have a big belly when they sit.

If this dress really makes your heart sing, then I would buy it. It is a beautiful dress and looks good on you! The colors and floral pattern are gorgeous.

You look great in this dress and if you did not point out I would not even notice the "tummy issue".
But to skylurker point, I avoid empire waist dresses because of few unfortunate pregnancy related comments (from my own mother and she should know better ).

Thanks so much karen13 and stella belly!

Skylurker, both me and my friends have gotten the pregnant-question too... very rude as it's not meant as a compliment! And you should never ask people about pregnancy regardless, you never know how sensitive such an issue can be... anyway, I like this cut so I wear it regardless

You look great in the dress but, in my country, people associate this type of high waisted dress with pregnancy, and will ask you if you're pregnant (rude, I know - happened to my flat-tummy sister recently).

You look wonderful in that dress. The print is gorgeous, the color is great on you and the cut is very flattering. I see no tummy! When we sit, that fabric has to go somewhere. I am certainly guilty of focusing on my perceived trouble areas, so I understand the issue. But this forum is the perfect place to ask for honest (yet still kind) feedback and you got a resounding thumbs up! Enjoy it and wear the heck out of it.

Thank you harmonica. Yes, my tummy has always been my issue but I've been working on acceptance and normally I feel quite good about myself, but now I'm more negative... but it's such a boost to get all these great comments!!

Thanks so much Grey Rainbow! And that's so typical (and sad) that I don't focus on other parts, I just see what I see as my "issue". Thanks so much for the support and compliment!

Aaaah thanks so much Kaelyn!!

Good idea River Raine, I have a shorter navy cardi that should work with this dress. I can post some different combinations once it's mine :)

And I just assumed that it was the print and short sleeves that made it summery! But it's part of the stores current collection (and it's sold out online) so I think it's not too summery..?

I think the navy (or maybe it's black?) background is great for fall. Angie - what is it on this dress that makes it "summer"? The flowers? The short sleeves? The lighter fabric? all of it? haha!

Does anyone else feel that a shorter cardigan would be divine with this dress, so Karin's figure is shown off? Maybe I'm off and a longer sweater is good too? If longer is good too, how long?

Thanks so much Angie! I think that if I wear it with tights and a cardi I can wear it for fall and spring too, even if it's a summery print, I don't mind that!

Thanks a lot Kaelyn, I totally agree with all that you say. And so sweet to say that my tummy looks cute and feminine! some years ago I was working actively with my body image, looking at myself with kind and accepting eyes, not necessarily loving all parts but simply accepting that this is me! It helped a great deal so I think it's time to get back into that habit - your words are a good starting point!

I'm glad you decided to go for it! It looks really pretty on you. I think your tummy is really cute and feminine. You don't look fat to me at all.

I'm so in favor of people challenging norms and wearing whatever they damn well please, but I also totally understand what it's like to feel self conscious. Sometimes I make myself get over my insecurities by throwing myself in the deep end (like when I bought a bikini a few years ago when I was at almost my fattest!). Sometimes I try something I think I can deal with and learn to like on me and it just plain doesn't work, and as much as I enjoy breaking "rules" about what people with my body type "can" or "can't" wear, my comfort has to come first. I don't try to hide how fat I am, but I do try to wear things that highlight the parts of my appearance that I like best rather than the parts I'm more insecure about. I think it's important to challenge beauty standards, but it's also important to wear things that make you feel good. You are rocking that dress, and I'm glad that it turned out to be something you're comfortable giving a try.

Oh, thanks SO much all of you!! Such sweet comments, thank you!

I realised on my way home that I forgot to take a pic from the side, which would have given a more accurate look than the ones sitting down.

Thanks River Raine! That's a really good idea! I'll buy some black tights to go with it and wear it with a black long cardi that I like. I'll buy it tomorrow and wear it on Sunday!

Thanks Christina F, I agree that it's ourselves who see most of (all of?) our "flaws"! I have worked with myself and my body image but have better and worse periods...

Thank you Emily K, thanks for your honesty!

Thanks Sara L! I tried sitting in a least flattering position to really see what it can look like! Also I sometimes make an effort not to sit with knees crossed but instead taking up some space in a room! But in a dress I probably sit quite a lot with knees crossed which makes the dress more flowy.

Ok, I just called the store and asked them to put it away for me for tomorrow, yay! Thanks for your support!

I'm sensitive about my tummy too. It's the first place I gain weight and the last place I lose weight. With that in mind, I think this looks fine on you. Sitting down isn't a very accurate way to measure how your tummy looks. Everyone has a tummy when they sit. Also, most people don't look at your tummy when you're sitting because usually people are sitting at a table or desk where your tummy is obscured. Plus, would you really sit like that - knees apart, dress drooping down? I usually sit with my legs crossed and my dress fluffed over my legs and tummy.

OK. Honestly....really, really honestly...the dress is just fine! I think is a very flattering cut and color. You said it yourself--you wouldn't react negatively to someone else wearing this dress--and, if I saw you IRL, I wouldn't give your tummy a second glance. You look fit and healthy and well with the "norm".

I really like River's idea of making an occasion to wear the dress right away.

I love the dress, and you look great! I too feel sensitive about my tummy, since it sticks out a lot due to bloating. I could be more toned too, of course! I've gotten over all my body issues but that one, since it's a newer problem (whereas I'm used to being a very curvy pear). I think that people don't notice this stuff nearly as much as we do, probably. Your perception of your tummy won't go away overnight, but hey, you have to wear something regardless, and it may as well be fabulous!

That dress is gorgeous and you look gorgeous in it. Buy it, wear it with confidence and remember, no one really notices the things we don't like about ourselves. <3

My advice to not letting it sit in your closet is to go to your closet and find things you could wear with it immediately, like tomorrow. Make a plan with someone this weekend and wear the dress, is another way to go.

Hi all! I fell in love with this dress today, but am cautious to buy it because of body issues... I'm upset by myself for even thinking about it, I wish I could just buy things I love, but of course I'm also affected by norms and ideals in society...

My issue is with my tummy, and I normally wear clothes that conceal it more than this dress. It's not at all a tight dress but still more than I'm used to. So I wonder whether I should buy it and hope that it's mostly a question of getting used to wearing another type of clothing, so that I will feel more comfortable as I get more used to it... but with the risk that it will only hang in my wardrobe if I don't get used to it...

As always would love to hear your honest thoughts on this!

I tried taking pics showing what I see in the mirror, not sure if they fully capture what I see, but still an attempt.

And I want to say that logically I think everyone should wear what they like, and I wouldn't react if I saw someone looking like me wearing a dress like this, it's just me at this moment trying to feel more comfortable in my own body, which is hard in today's society that is so obsessed with slimness!
