I think this butter yellow sets off your hair and eye colors, in an intriguing and beautiful way!

I also think that I often say this about certain colors on myself (most pastels), I buy them, and then I don't wear them for long, because I feel they render me slightly invisible.

With this in mind... what if the yellow were a brighter, clearer yellow? Like dandelions or daffodils?

It can work but not so close to your face (a top will have to have a neckline openining anyway). And it all depends on the style of the garnment, of course. GP put up a great ex.(in her pictie nr 1) of a top which wouldn't be overly feminine despite the soft color.

I can’t see it as a winner, in terms of just adding a top or jacket to your wardrobe. If you wanted to have a taste of the butter yellow trend, then something in a smaller amount that would contrast with summer blues & denims, like a crossbody bag or some sneakers, might be fun, or in the print of a scarf.

I think it suits you well! This shade looks a little more saturated on my screen than a really soft buttery yellow, and looks like what I always see as a good yellow for "cool" palettes, which I think you are, right? Might be fun to try a less expensive piece, just for a little spring pick me up? I say go for it!

Not sure about that yellow exactly, but the yellow in the skirt goldenpig is showing could work. I think that's one they recommend for Winters, cause it's icy rather than pastel.
I've been paying a lot more attention to the different shades of yellow in nature- early leaves on trees, daffodills, forsythias, etc. The early leaf (dark warm closer to green) could be my version.

Janet, I feel like both you and I love the rocker/edgy/darker vibe, and teal and autumn and jewel tones, but both think that pastels are not our style. Well I've fallen head over heels for pink which was a surprise for me. I think loving the burgundy everything for fall/winter naturally transitioned to pink for spring, especially after I bought the pink bag and realized it went with everything including burgundy! I never knew I was such a girly girl! So, you can absolutely do butter yellow even if it's not your usual style. Not everything has to be edgy! But, pairing architectural butter yellow tops with black leather pants, or a cream or black top with butter yellow skirt, or snakeskin dress or pants could be cool and edgy butter yellow!

I love yellow in the garden, like daffodils, iris, forsythia, and yarrow, so I can’t be neutral about it. Why bother with an okay yellow when you have so many colors that are really fab on you, like teal?

Thanks for all the feedback! Really interesting point about the “edge” factor. In theory I could wear a yellow top in this shade with some of my edgier pants or cargo skirt, etc. Or ideally get a yellow piece that has some inherent masculine or edgy component. I really like this style in this photo, but not prepared to spend $200+ on a color that may be a flash in the pan for me.

So I think I will just file this info away and not bother with butter yellow at this point unless it’s in a print!

If you are drawn to it why not? I like buttery yellow.

I have a few colours with only one item in that colour - as long as I have neutrals to wear it with then it works.

I tried a shirt in this colour recently - I liked the colour but it was oversized and boxy and crisp which is not what I wanted despite loving the piece.

Honestly I am not a fan (seeing that you asked). It is not bad imo, just not one of your best. I'd say only if you love the colour wear it. I think a bright lemon yellow may suit you better. I think this yellow works with warmer jewellery and you wear predominantly silver so that is telling for me. When my hair was darker only cool or bright yellows worked. When my hair was silver any yellow looked not great. Now I'm not sure as my hair is a pink-ish blonde and I have not tried any yellows recently.

It's a great color! One of my favorites. Seems to work on you, but I know you prefer blues and such. Perhaps adding in quite a bit of gold or copper jewelry touches...or pairing with darks like burgundy.

I like it! Does not dull your complexion. It’s different, and fab with salty hair!

You can successfully add a tough edge to pastels. It’s a fab look! Part of the Dark Romance trend too. I’ve covered that in a blog post that’s lined up ready to go.

I don't think it dulls your complexion, though it's hard to say for sure since I take it you're in a shop with fluorescent lights, which make everything look a bit unreal. But like Lisa, I suspect it's not one you gravitate to because it often comes in very feminine-coded items and/or would just feel too "girlish." Having said that, since it's enjoying a fashion moment, this season, you may find items that are quite sophisticated (as in Angie's blog post) and new colour combinations that could work, if it appeals to you. Not just with denim (though it's great with that). I find that's the best thing about any colour enjoying "a moment." It becomes available in out-of-the-ordinary items.

I love butter yellow but don't think I can wear it myself. Though my mother wore it exceptionally well (usually with a bit of a tan, admittedly, since for her it was a summer colour.)

Well I wouldn’t say that it dulls your skin tone - not at all in fact . But - I think it lacks the edge you like in a look. Yellow can read soft and femme , and that might be the disconnect ?

Yellows have never been my best color, but last year I took this photo holding up a butter yellow top to my face. I’m not sure. It’s in store lighting too, which is never the best. I feel like it maybe dulls the color of my eyes and skin. Might not be worth investing in anything in this color when I have others that suit me so much better. Sometimes it’s nice to have a little variety though!

What do you think about this color on me? And can you wear it comfortably?
