I was noticing the exact same thing unfrumped. It drives me nuts when they do that for online items and on mannequins in store windows. Very deceiving and it probably results in a lot more returns than they want. If it is that obvious that buyers want items that are shaped more, then perhaps they should style them that way rather than faking it.

Rant over...

cheryle, ha! Now on U.S. site, all sizes gone except L.
And in the photo with the top on a hanger, it looks practically A-line, compared to on model--probably they have done the sneaky back-clip thing!

Janet, you have nailed the issue, as we will see. It will all be in the fit and proportion, as to whether the material, be it leather or faux, is cut and fitted to showcase its properties as something with structure and a type of texture, or just be boxy stiff meh shape. And of course may not be able to tell if is too big overall.

I like that top a lot. I have something similar from Trouve from a couple of years ago, except it is gunmetal color, and real leather, at least the front part is. The back is a stretch jersey. It also has some slight shaping in the form of small darts at the bust, which helps mitigate the boxy feel. One thing I see on the BR top that would give me pause is the sleeve length, which is that tricky mid-arm short sleeve. At least it's tricky for me, when paired with a crew neck -- you have a longer neck, slimmer arms and a smaller bust than I do, so it may not be bothersome for you.

My rambling way of saying that it's a really interesting top that could be very good or go very wrong depending on the fit! Definitely worth trying. Please give us an update!

I bought a sweater with a faux leather front from BR last year. The faux leather is not cheap looking to my eye but I found it gave the sweater a boxy feel because it is thicker/heavier than a knit. Mine has a different fabric portion though so it may not be the same. I didn't find it hot or cold just a touch thick and flat if that makes sense.

Tulle, that could be. And faux may also LOOK too faux, which is then the opposite of luxe. From the pics it seems to have a partially fabric back, which could help. On the model, it looks slightly tailored in the waist, which is appealing, but then sometimes it's a photo trick!
We'll see. Maybe lessons learned and re- learned.

It's pretty, with a nice structured shape. My concern would be the material, which I would expect to be hot & sticky in warm weather, and chilly in the cold.

After trying to identify some elements that might make simple silhouettes more interesting, I came across this BR faux leather top in burgundy (online; ;have not seen IRL).

However, as is often the case it's sold out in many sizes. I managed to order one size, the largest I'd likely be able to wear, but not in 2 sizes and so if it runs large or boxy may be sized out. Of course, it might not look great, either!

I swear this was a fpretty new arrival, though I'm not on these sites every day. Maybe that's a sign it is/was a good item but no help if size not available.

This is not a HEWI per se, but, "interesting, more polished/not flimsy tops" was on my list, so I just thought it would be fun to see if it worked, to add some outfit interest while not being as stark as black, and something other than a wool knit.

Yet I find that items sell out so fast that it seems discouraging to try to have some focus. Can't check constantly. I think that leads to random things. I ordered this the instant I saw it, right size or not, and the next day was sold out in that size, too. I am not used to being that quick on the trigger for something I haven't seen, and yet waiting just a day has led to many escapes. Not sure I'm up for the drama!

Solutions do include keeping the brakes on getting some other item just as a substitute .

Has anyone seen this in store? I'll give an update if it works.
