Staysfit, this is a very old thread that was revived so that's why the links don't work.
I wonder about the poly content of jackets. Maybe that makes them better than their all-cotton predecessors? Or maybe the predecessors used better cotton that was more durable, so in the end, both jackets are comparable? I have no clue. It seems to me though, that if you can't tell that there's polyester in it, then it's probably ok.

Not sure which coat you mean? Each link takes me to the home page. Regardless, I think they're gorgeous. They don't fit me. I have been in a store and tried some on in various sizes. I ran into the same problem I do with blazers. The torso becomes much too wide if the sleeves are long enough. :-(

I see what Shiny says above, but there wasn't enough allowance to lengthen the sleeves for me in the size I need.

I'm an enabler though. If they fit you, go for it!

I've got two-- a classic double breast trench in stone and a single breasted black wool trench. The wool trench is super warm. The stone trench packs surprisingly well.

I resisted forever, then came to appreciate the brilliance of how they are constructed, for genius tailoring. If you are short like me, choose one that has a shorter hem, as they do not advise taking up the hem because it may not fall right. Find one that fits at the shoulders and they can hem the sleeves, raise the straps, move the buttons, raise the belt. Then if you gain or lose some weight, you just have the buttons moved in or out.

A friend once gave me a 10 year-old cashmere/wool Burberry coat to sell online for her (it was a cinch). I'd never seen such a beautiful coat in my life. I think the investment is worth it if you plan on using the coat for many years. But even if you get tired of it or your style changes, Burberry has high resale value, so I don't see how you could lose your money.

I have a Burberry 3/4 length black trench and it has been a wonderful workhorse. They are made to last - mine is 10 years old and still looks pristine. They are expensive and compared to other brands, I don't know if they really justify the price. However, I am considering buying another (full length in the classic beige colour) because my current coat has been such a great piece.

My cousin gave me one of her old Burberry trench coats. I love the style but it's a little too big I ended up surrendering it to my mom.

Back to my cousin for a minute: she loves Burberry and swears by their coats and owns several of them. You should totally invest in one if you can afford it!!

It is has beautiful workmanship.

I own two Burberry coats and love them! I feel very polished in my classic, quilted field jacket and remarkably fashion forward in my red taffeta raincoat. Both are relatively new - one is 9 years-old and the other is only a year old. Both are polyester (I am terribly allergic to wool.) Last year I noticed that some of the stitching was coming undone at the cuffs and shoulder of the older quilted jacket. I took the jacket in to the store and asked if they could recommend a tailor in the area that could fix this issue. "No problem ma'am, we'll fix that for you." They whisked it away and repaired the stitching without a charge. When I picked it up, I found out they sent it back to London to find the correct thread colour. When they couldn't match the thread 100%, they re-quilted the entire jacket with all new thread. It looked fabulous - especially for being 9 years old. That's great customer service.

I would take a wool and cashmere coat over anything made with polyester any day. Wool is a natural repeller of water. That means water will not soak into the fibers unless seriously drenched. Both fibers are warm and breathable. Polyester is not.

Burberries are beautifully made.

If your're concerned about moths, just make sure the coat is clean when you put it away for the summer. Lavendar and cedar supposedly repel moths, although they're not 100% effective. I keep lavendar sachets in my boxes of yarn and everything has remained in good shape over the years.

I've been eyeing Burberry coats recently, and was wondering if any of you have any experiences with the coats. In as much as clothing is marked up, are Burberry coats worth the price in terms of materials, fit and workmanship? Some of the wool coats are a 80/20 wool/cashmere blend, but I would worry that moths would get to the coats. There are quilted trenches made out of polyester, but is it wise to spend that much on a polyester coat? Or is it more prudent to have a coat made by a tailor? Any thoughts?
