I like both pairs and I'm glad you decided to keep them. Since finding sandals is difficult for you, it makes sense to hold onto the ones you find.

I have a bunion on left foot too and like Lisa P I like it covered. These Merrill’s are so comfortable plus I think really trendy, I see the style all over the blogosphere. Also these birks https://m.zappos.com/i/8640434...../4228915/1 Which again just really hold the bunion in.

For myself/my bunioned feet: I prefer something that covers that part of my foot.

I've worn the heck out of my Earth Bay sandals--the "Tidal" sandal seems to be this year's version. (I know you didn't ask for recommendations, but in case you want to look around...)

Thanks for all the input everyone. Yesterday I wore the Echo sandals around the house for several hours and they were fine. The footbed is much more comfortable than Ecco's I've had in the past--admittedly the distant past.

#Nebraskim--I get the monthly digest from barkingdogshoes and try their suggestions occasionally.

#3style--I hadn't noticed that difference between the toes on the two brands. I haven't tried Ecco for years because they weren't that comfortable for me.

#Cindy, the red shoes are tighter. I worried at first and used Dr. Scholl's Blister preventer and had no problem. Also, the straps are fabric and softer. I wore them days in the heat and humidity of Disney World and did surprisingly well.

#Lisa and Carla, my bunions are somewhat weird--they don't bother me and never have. It's the metatarsal area and my toes that give me problems, and of course, finding shoes that fit over the bunions. I have more problems with sandals that have the bands over the bunion, although I do have some that work.

#Angie--I added the Finds.

I'm going to keep the Eccos. I won't be using them for lots of walking and standing, so I still need another pair of walking sandals. I'm going to head down to the SAS store one of these days to try on shoes.

I so understand your delima. I'm with folks who suggest a slide or something that (gently) wraps over the joint with a footbed that accommodates the shape of your foot.

My feet look very much like yours ( see below) and these Naturalizers are lovely.

Don't the straps need to cover , or wrap over the bunion, rather than cut into the top or bottom of it? I have one on my left foot, and anything with a strap like that is a recipe for a sore foot, plus an aggravated bunion. I won't go near sandals that expose it, and feel much better with that toe joint covered and protected.

I'm torn, because I have foot problems on my right foot and am having to sort through what shoes work and what to ignore as soon as it crosses my path. I love the red sandals, but they look like they might be tighter or less comfortable than the gold ones. If they are comfortable for you, then by all means keep the red ones because I think they're wonderful. The gold ones are a keep too.

Rheumatoid feet here and I cannot wear any Ecco shoes any time. The very tips of the toe boxes are always super pointy and cram my toes in a way which screws up my foot’s mechanical movement. Notice how there’s much more of a semi-circle in the toe platform for the Clarks, leaving more room for the toes to be on the footbed. However, there is a steeper decline away from the big toe in the Ecco sandals.

I would pass; I too have a bunion and the straps on these really look like they might make things worse. There's a nice website with a name like barkingdogshoes.com that has lots of options for people with feet/foot issues.

I would worry that over time they would hurt your feet. I have extra wide feet and bunions, and any time my bunions hang over the edge of the footbed, it's a recipe for eventual discomfort.

The Eccos look like they're squeezing your tootsies. I'd pass on them. Could you revisit SAS? I have two pairs now and they're so kind to my fussy feet. Perhaps not the most fashionable styles... But. So. Comfortable.

(I removed the center strap from the black pair. It slides right off.)

I have this problem. I generally don’t do sandals anymore. More a slide and peep toe d’orsay person now, so that part of my foot is covered completely. It’s the rubbing. You don’t think the straps will rub?

I've been looking for a replacement for some SAS sandals when I found the Ecco's below on Amazon for $15 cheaper than Zappos. They are fairly comfortable, but--do they look strange?

I have bunions, overlapping and distorted toes, and arthritis, but I look forward to summer. Finding closed shoes is a a challenge, and it's had to find comfy sandals that don't look too horrible. I have to add pads and sometimes I have to tape my toes down.

The red pair are Clark's that I wore at Disney World and are reasonably comfortable. Sandals with a strap across the bunion usually don't work well.

By the way, that's a 33-day old pedicure--longest lasting I've ever had.

I do wear Vionic thongs around, but they aren't supportive enough to wear outside the house and yard.

What do you think? Keep the Ecco's?
