Lets just say a 29" inseam is too long for me, my mom, my sister, and probably the rest of the women in my extended family too. None of us particularly mind being short, but it does affect my perceptions of average leg length. I also live in a fairly short city: I used to live in Colorado and at 5'3" always felt tiny there. Here in south Texas, there are times when I'm one of the tallest out in public! You definitely look grown-up, modern, and romantic, so I think you're doing a wonderful job. And flash mob opera would be magical: I love the opera but don't get to go very often so usually content myself with recordings from the library! The colors are superb. The jeans are casualizing and the colors, being deep and fall-ish, are not too dressy but add interest without resorting to "fancy" style or cuts. So I think it's a great way to play up your style and coloring, but still feel at home in casual settings. Thanks for the encouragement.  I'm trying to dress for my real life and my real self, but my real life doesn't always seem to know that I'm royalty without a budget or visible signs of aging! Pil:  You crack me up.  For musicians, football only has two periods.  It's all over when the band leaves the field after the halftime show!  And I live far enough in the northern suburbs to run into the Packers v Bears rivalry! Lyn:  You bring up a big point.  Colored shoes can ground a look, making the wearer seem more balanced.  I avoid super delicate evening shoes onstage for the same reason -- it can leave you with "Barbie feet," you know, pointed feet that look like you're teetering and about to fall over, but almost without shoes.  I need a little visual weight at the base. Peri:  I don't want to become a trendhopper, so I'm OK wearing things that were trending in seasons past without feeling odd.  I think it's nice to have other eyes to let us know what's still working, and to mix older items with newer seems to help, too.  And I'm done being swayed by the size in the label!  (Thanks, Angie, for helping me make that change). E -- A line of "short, short legged people?"  Oh, I'm seeing adordable dwarvish ancesters singing on their way to work their idyllic farms!  I've seen you post those, and I know you're far too lithe for that!   Your comments are very helpful, and quite on target.  Romantic is one of my style monikers, and I'm trying to learn to keep a bit of that while staying decidedly grown-up and modern.  I am indeed an opera singer (with bronchitis at the moment.  yuck), and feel I look my best in a satin Edwardian gown.  Unfortunately, one can't perform "La Traviata" at WalMart (although it would be fun -- maybe a flash mob, if I can snag a tenor). Carambola:  Life is too short to leave the red shoes in the closet! I always have the same debate with myself about color and interest versus elongating the leg line with black, but you look fantastic, so I'm going to try to remember that and push myself to reach for the red more often. You really have your colour palette nailed, and even in the bf jeans you've got the diva feel. I love, love, love the vest in 1! I also think your legs look long even with the red booties, which really pick up the scarf and add a more romantic feel to the outfit, so I think you made the right choice. But to be honest leg lengthening is low on my personal list of dressing priorities, and I come from a family of short, short-legged people, so I'm probably not the most helpful adviser for that! hehe I like the red booties again in outfit 2 for the same romantic feel, although I don't think they're as important since you already have more romantic colours & a more hourglassy silhouette than in outfit 1. The taupe ones in 3 seem to do a good job of casualising (I know that's not a word) your outfit, so if you wanted to take things down a notch swapping the red for taupe could be a good strategy. I'm not familiar with your black booties but since you have dark hair I'd imagine they'd work too, although with the lighter wash jeans it might make a more abrupt horizontal line if you're interested in lengthening your leg line as much as possible. And if grey isn't your best colour, you've neutralised any bad effects with that scarf, because you still look wonderful in outfit 3! I don't think the thumb holes are too young, since there's no hood attached to your cardi. :) I don't know if any of this was helpful & I hope I didn't overstep any bounds, but I really appreciated your comment on my outfit post yesterday so wanted to try to reciprocate! If the jackets feel dated and don't make you happy, I'd say you are on track to think about looking for their replacements. I only use black shoes only on a few occasions for myself when wearing black pants(and then, my choice is mostly a shiny patent)  as I find a deep color much more interesting and balancing my  figure better (so your burgundy booties would be my first choice ever!:-). And to reference Claire's comment about purple, I saw a sign at Cracked Barrel (yes, I frequent high end joints) that read "purple is the drama queen of the color wheel". Substitute diva for drama queen and you're good to go! I like the red booties in 1, they add more - wait for it - drama to the outfit. Black would be nice too, but more expected. 2 is fab as is though isn't it nice to have the option of black or taupe if you have a wild hair that day. As far as I'm concerned the gray cardi is a really nice color on you, especially the way you have added some color with the scarf. So since baseball season is over and 'home run' is an out of season phrase, I'd say you just ran the interception back for the TD with these casual looks!
