Well you have def. made me rethink the whole "no docs for work" thing Inge. Thanks!!!

I agree that 15" is a good height. Thats why I'm confused about Maya saying EM boots wouldn't work for ppl taller than 5"4 since they are meant to be 15" as well. Anyway I think I have overthought this brown boot thing too much and am just going to wait and see what comes out in shops here.

I WILL get the silver docs though!!!!!

Hope you have had no more near misses with the bag.For you and the bag's sake!

I really like this height for KHB Tam. My black boots hit me about 0.7 inch higher, and that's good too.
Mid-calf boots are great, but they tend to be a little less versatile in my opinion.
(I have a pair of brown, flat, mid-calf Campers, and haven't worn them at all this Winter)

I mostly work from home at the moment, but have in fact worn the silver Docs to two business meetings, for which I wanted to look very polished and professional. They worked like a charm. You could definitely wear them to work too.

(The bag is great, thanks. I still have to get used to the fact that it's a little larger than my other bag. I was in the supermarket last week, carrying it in the crook of my arm, and when I rounded a corner I almost took a whole shelf of wine bottles with me;-)

Inge thanks for posting those measurements! Sorry I didn't reply earlier - I lost the thread amongst all the newer posts!!

I love the pics of you in the docs! Makes me rethink saying I can't get away with them for work. You still looks polished and professional!! Do you wear them to work or is this smart casual??

I think 15" would hit me at roughly the same point on the leg as in your pic. Do you find that to be your perfect height for KHBs or do you have other ones taller/shorter?? My most-worn boots are 11" making them more mid-calf ones really.

p.s. i really love your black bag!!!!!

Tam, here are a few pics of me wearing the silver Docs (I've posted them before, so they may seem familiar).

I'm really pleased with them, and have worn them on many different occasions. They are much more versatile than I ever expected. Just my two cents;-)

http://s278.photobucket.com/al.....20Martens/
(password: fabfactor)

If it helps, I've just measured the shaft height of the Docs, and it's 15 inches (soles not included!). I'm also 5'8.

Thanks for your reply San! Maybe it is my decades old perception of docs clouding my thinking, but I don't think I could wear them to work over pants. Maaaaaybe with a skirt. Even though they offer great coverage and safety, they just don't seem "doctory" to me (despite the name haha!) I don't need to get too dressed up for work, but nothing too out there either more for the reason it would draw comments from patients. I have already had one tell me if I was his granddaughter he would pull out my nosering!

Having said that I think doctors get to dress very differently here in Aus compared to Us - or is it just the TV shows? I have never ever seen any doctor in a white lab coat here thank goodness!

I can see you wearing the silver docs. It's a shame you can't wear them to work though. Also are you aware of the problems some of us have had in trying to make one pair of boots do double duty as skirt boots and tucking boots? It is not common for a pair of boots to be able cover both duties.
Someone just brought up on the forum that rubber soled boots cannot be re-soled. Maybe it was you who brought it up. I see that the Frye boots have leather soles so that would make them cobbler friendly.
I liked the looks of the Frye Paige cuff boots. They have some great style details like the leather strap being a different color than the boot and it looks like you can fold down the cuff, and since they are a leather sole you could have them re-soled in later years.
The engineer boots are very casual to me. Can you wear those to work? Are they in the same league as the Doc's?
Good luck. It looks like you have really done your homework.

Hmm zappos has now sold out of Eric Michael Orly's in my size (gigantic feet!) I can still see them on womensshoes.com though. Has anyone ever bought from there?

Also I'm still confused about why Angie and Tanya said these boots are too short at 15" if you guys are 5'6 and I'm 5'8. My current tallest boots are 15"5. Do you think the shaft height is not true measurement??

Thanks for the input - sorry this reply is so late in coming.

Angie, yes I am thinking of tucking. And comfortable is a must! Trouble is that's hard to determine online and none of them are available in Aus!

Tucking is a look I haven't tried yet, but all the ylf tucking pics you guys have been sporting lately have inspired me to give it a go!! I'd ideally like to wear them with skirts though too as I'll only have one pair of this colour. Seems like the Eric Michaels ones are most versatile in this respect, but I'm worried they'd be too short! I really like the look of them too, so I am tempted to give them a go. Hopefully the 41 would be big enough for me as that seems to be the max size. And they run small, don't they?

Danielle thanks for your thoughts on the Frye boots. Confirms my suspicions that the slouch ones aren't really slouchy. They do sound like great quality boots though!

Brianna and Inge, I'd love to see pics of your silver docs as well. I'm a long-time doc fan, and I am thrilled every time I see Tanya's silver ones. May not be 100% practical for me as I doubt I can wear them to work, but I so have to have them I'm telling myself I can retire my 15 year old green pair if I get a silver pair

I have the Frye Veronica Slouch boots, and they are not slouchy on me at all. For me they're actually almost knee high however, so that might be part of it. Also, they are very wide in the calf, which works well for me, but they could be a little bit much on someone with a slim calf. One other thing to note is that they have a different finish this year, more aged looking.

I love the Maxine Harness boots, but personally would shy away from the suede versions just because I find it a little less wearable. Especially for Fryes, because the best part of those boots is how the leather wears.

Those Eric Michaels boots are great.

I really like the Camper Barbarellas, the Modern Vintage, and the Eric Michaels. And the Paige Cuff Campers are amazing! I think the Harness boots are a very different look. I'm personally not a fan of mid-calf boots except when worn over pants.

I have a pair of Frye boots (Paige Buckle) that are in their "Dark Brown" colour and they are a very, very dark cool-toned brown--nowhere near the chestnut colour that most YLFers have been looking for to wear with black. I DO wear my dark brown Fryes with black, but it's a different look. The Cognac colour looks great, though, and is actually my favourite colour for boots--I want a pair like that next year. Fryes are major investment boots that should last you for years and years. They take a bit of breaking in but are very comfortable. I don't know about the heels.. I know for me they probably wouldn't work as 8-hour boots. Haven't tried them on, though.

I think at least 3 of us on the forum (me, Tanya, Inge) have the silver Docs. They're wonderful. By far the most comfy shoes I've ever, ever owned. I reccommend!

OK I know I said I wouldn't post another question.......but I lied!!

While you gals are picking out lovely flats and sandals for your warming weather, I'm preparing for winter down here. And that means boots!!!

I need a pair of black boots to replace my currently dying ones, and a pair of chestnut brown ones. I know I don't *need* them, but I am also dead keen to copy Tanya's silver docs. I have been lusting over them ever since she first posted pics!!

Other than the dying black boots, I currently have:

- a red pair of midcalf boots (11" shaft). I love these to pieces!! I
know I've already posted this link yesterday, but here's where 11" hit me.
- a dark brown suede pair of nearly knee high boots. I love them but find the suede a bit impractical.
- chunky sole and heeled black knee high boots (15.5" shaft). These are well over 10 years old but I barely wear them because I just don't wear heels, plus I think the shape of the sole/heel might be dated.

My black boots that are dying are only 11" shaft, and to be honest
that's never really bothered me, but I guess that does make them mid-calf rather than knee highs. I'd like to replace them with a longer pair I think.

So anyway, I was thinking of a slouchy brown, and a plain-ish flat pair, maybe with a buckle or two.

Here's ideally what I'd like the brown pair to look like, but these ones are sold out:

http://www.yesstyle.com/Produc.....AID=198698

Other options I have found whilst hunting around:

- Camper Barbarellas (14 3/4" shaft). Not slouchy, but I like the detailing. I wonder if the brown is as dark as it looks though. If so, too dark for what I need!
- Frye Veronica Slouch (13 1/2" shaft). This would put them somewhere between mid-calf and knee-high though. Is that bad?? And although the style is called "slouch" they really aren't very slouchy.
- Barolo Buckle Boot by Jim Barnier by FreePeople (13 1/2" shaft). I don't really like the sole, but I like the buckle at top and bottom. Again, would this be a weird shaft height for me? Even on
sale they are very $$$.
- Anouk Tara Leather Boots (13"
shaft ). Even crazier priced, and not even slouchy. How gorgeous are they though, I just had to include them!
- Frye Jenny Double(15.00" shaft). Slouchy, check. Colour, check. Knee-high, check. They are heeled though (2"). That scares me. Does anyone have these or have tried them on? Need to know about the comfort factor! $$$ too.
- Modern Vintage Frannie (16 1/2" shaft). The tallest yet! These would hit me just below where the kneecap starts. Is that too high? Hard to tell if they are too dark, and they're not really slouchy either. And they are $$$.
- Eric Michael Orly (15" shaft) - these are the unofficial ylf mascot boot right? :) Angie I know you have said they are too short for you - but where do they hit you? 15" seems like it would be very high on me!
- Frye Maxine Harness (13.50" shaft). Again, weird height? Very $$$. Not really slouchy but I love the buckles!

That's a pretty full-on list of options isn't it? No wonder I am
confused!

As for the black pair I have been contemplating something simple like these
Camper spirals (15 1/4" shaft). Or is that too boring?
Other ones I have seen, but not really looked into:

- Frye Dorado Riding (16.50" shaft)
- FRYE Women's Paige Cuff Boot (massive 19" shaft) - they fold over

It's all a bit overwhelming looking at brown and black pairs together, but I
figure that if I get a buckley pair of brown ones, I don't want black ones that
re too similar, so I should try and decide on different shapes up front.

All advice appreciated, especially if you own or have tried on any of these
boots!!
