Love these shoes.
Heel lifts are an interesting proposition.
Good luck!

Sometimes, when you change the position of your foot in the shoe, the rubbing stops. Good luck. GORGEOUS shoes.

Thank you Di, that's really helpful and I started to do that last night.

Angie, I hadn't thought of heel lifts and I will definitely try.

Diana, thank you, I hadn't thought of this either and will get some.

El Cee, I'd be interested by what you mean by moleskin. Do you mean on the backs of your heels?

Thank you I really appreciate your ideas.

Those are lovely brogues. Hope you can get them broken in. I have the issue that Diana just mentioned -- many shoes have too high a back for my foot, causing cutting in problems. Like Angie just suggested, I use heel lifts. And, until the shoe backs soften, I use moleskin so I do not have as much rubbing.

Perhaps you need heel lifts?

The doc martens wonder balsam might work. It definitely softens up docs which are the epitome of hard leather.

Are the shoes possibly too high in back for you? I have learned to be really careful with the back height of oxfords because I have such low volume feet that even with an orthotic insert the backs come up too high and cut into the backs of my ankles.

Do you know what my mum used to do when I was a kid? She would get the bone handle of an ordinary cutlery knife and just kind of press it around the heel area of the shoe and work it round to soften the leather.

I'm so looking forward to properly wearing my cognac brogues but I've yet to break them in. I've got the width sorted with shoe stretchers, and broadly they are comfy for about an hour or so of pottering (rather than quick walking!).

The problem is the backs seem so stiff against my heel. I wondered if anyone had any top tips to ease the stiffness of the heel leather?

Multiple of plasters are helpful, but don't seem to help with the root cause.

Thank you for looking.
