Marianne, I saw this thread yesterday but didn't have time to comment. I really like this on you. I can't see your coloring because of the photo, but I think with your dark hair, it's really stunning! I'm glad you have decided to keep it.

I love the coat! I have a very similar one in wool, with black buttons, and I wear it all the time.

Thank you everyone for reassuring me! Sihaya, I was hoping you'd see this thread since you're such a fan of red. I don't think the color came through on the pictures, and it probably varies between monitors. It doesn't have any orange, it's pretty much the color of H&M logo on the bag. And very bright, too. I am not sure what the technical color name would be. I did try it with a white scarf, but that's how I usually "rescue" things things I am not sure about - and I want to be certain it works on its own. The store had the same coat in beige that I considered for a minute as a safer choice, but then thought of YLF :). I have the hardest time dealing with bright colors and this coat kind of scares me each time I put it on, so today I have been trying to picture it on other people as an exercise... now I just have to get used to seeing it on myself.

Lena, I am hopeless about skin undertones - I've tried to pay attention to that aspect but it just makes me more confused, along with the whole season theory.

The color is gorgous on you, Marianne! Same as Sihaya - since I met you in person at the YLF gathering, I know that rich bright colors like this will be wonderful against your skin and hair. I think it's a matter of you not being used to it. And of course, it is a more noticeable color, and you might just feel a little shy about it. I hope you adjust, it's very pretty!

Marianne without even seeing the picture, since I've seen you in person, I thought "red would look great on you" and it does in the pictures. I would definitely keep it and see how you feel over time once your eyes have adjusted? Maybe if you wear it a few times and get compliments, it will help you feel more settled. And this is the perfect shade of red on you. I would avoid bluish reds.

I think it looks great, Marianne. Of course I've biased because I have a dark red trenchcoat (Talbots).

It looks like a neutral shade of red (I mean, not too orange or too blue), but pictures don't always show true color. From what I can see, it looks very good with your dark hair. How do you feel in it? Do you think it makes your eyes look brighter? Does it bring out skin undertones you don't like? For example, I don't look good in red that is too orange because it brings out the yellow in my skin. I really like tomato or cherry red because it complements my pale skin.

I second Shiny's advice of something white.

Btw, I love that fun lining

It's a gorgeous color on you, and just the right shade for you coloring. Please keep it and see if you can slowly get used to wearing it.

I know it's hard if you're not used to wearing a lot of color. Believe it or not, I used to be that way myself - but you can see I got over it, since I wear a lot of color (and pattern too!) these days. ;-)

As for being too young for 30? No way! This is such a classic, sophisticated color and the coat is a classic style too.

Can you work some white into your outfit somewhere? I think it needs a splash of white. Perhaps a black and white checked scarf?

I agree, I think it's beautiful!! I would keep it... I think a coat is a good way to get started in a new color because you only where it part of the say on somedays.

I've always been afraid of bright colors, except some blues. Red has been especially problematic - currently I only own one red item. Each time I try on something red, I think it doesn't look right whatever the shade is. I'd like to get over this or least figure out which red works for me, so yesterday I picked up this spring coat at H&M. This is a lot of very bright red at once, so it's quite a plunge for me. A friend who was with me encouraged me to get it, but I don't trust her taste very much and I am really not used to seeing myself in red. I need some YLF feedback! Is it a good color for me? Is it too bright or too young for someone in her mid-30s? Is it too much red? It's no big deal if it's not a keeper, but I hope to get some pointers for my next try.

I tried to take pictures inside and outside, but it's pretty gloomy today... maybe some of you have seen the color in real life. And I hope you can see something with face blocking. :)
