@KikiG, my dress isn't really hot. It's light and airy. Plus, it's a winter wedding. Either way though, I don't think having the shapewear will matter that much. I won't be changing into a reception dress because I want to wear it all night.

@SammyGregory, I will look at DB to see their selection. Thanks!

I wore a simple corset when I was a bridesmaid. The bride and bridesmaids all got their corsets from Davids Bridal for a pretty decent price.

You might want to consider whether this will be hot or not, and whether or not you'll be changing into a reception dress that might be more comfortable. Wedding dresses, with no corset, are heavy and hot. A long skirt traps heat. I think a corset might make it worse.

If $500-800 is line with the cost of the dress and you would wear it more than once, I s'pose you might consider it, but I would think you could find something under $200, if not under $150. I'm a weird size so my bras cost over $50, but if you can find reasonably comfortable undergarments that work for you at that price point, go for it! There will always be opportunities to spend money that you save in one area.

I have my dress picked out. It'll be one of two that I have picked right now and will make the final decision next weekend when I go back to the shop. I don't like the idea of sewing cups into it because it doesn't really do anything. Shapewear or a corset will accentuate my waist while supporting my chest.

Have you gone wedding dress shopping yet? Because your dress will dictate the underpinnings. And some bridal shops sell the undergarments you'll need to make the dress look as it should. Plus, sometimes you can have stays or bra cups sewn into your dress, so no need for additional foundation garments. Get your dress before you get underwear to make it look good.

Hi gang!

I haven't been around in a while because life has been busy. But exciting news -- I'm getting married! In looking at wedding dresses, a friend of mine suggested I wear a corset because I want a ballgown. I don't know the first thing about where to get a quality corset. I know department stores have them, but she steered me toward more upscale corsets that cost in the $500-800 dollar range.

Any thoughts about this? Will this be a good investment or am I just as well off going to Nordstrom and getting a $50.00 corset?
