And more from Debenhams in metallic or tweed or animal print... then photo 6 is a boot from Next. About the only one that wasn't " clumpy" in my book ( sorry I have a hatred of clumpy boots with opaque tights, I can like them with skinnies eg ponte pants with leather detailing. ) Figuring you're looking for office appropriate here.

Well, this is fun! Indulging my passion for looking at beautiful shoes on behalf of someone else! I can't see how to do finds from the UK shops Debenham's and Next ( great choices, have bought from both those when I've lived in the UK twice for 6-12 months each time) so I have downloaded some onto my computer and will add them as photos. These ones are navy flats from Debenhams. Agree with everyone suggesting flat pumps and loafers, you could try brogues too. Booties that are not too clumpy could work too.

IMO ballet slippers were not a thing for the past 4-5 years and are coming back this spring. I have backless loafers in mind for spring.

Before I had foot problems, I used to wear kitten heel sling back pumps. I think loafers are great, too. It all depends on how visually heavy you want your footwear to be.

Maybe flats with an ankle strap or tie would be another idea? A lot are bare at the sides, which may not be great with tights, but here are a few examples that aren't.

Have you tried a kitten heel pump? I have some that are less than 1.5 inches high so they function as flats. For summer, try D'Orsey style flats with open sides or mules. Try oxfords and athletic ballet flats, ankle straps and especially loafers. Below are just a few ideas from Finds.

I love the ones kkards suggested - especially the leopard ones.
What about a loafer?

my 1st thought was slipper flats....have your tried them instead of a ballet flat? are you open to slip on sneakers...not sure if you are dressing for an office, but they could be great with knit dresses. also like the idea of a metalic flat to add some interest. are you open to a basic loafer?

I'm in the market for some new shoes for work. I've been wearing the ballet flat trend for years now, I still really like the style but it's getting very hard to find really comfortable pairs. I think I need to break out of a style rut, but am not sure which direction to go.

At work, I normally wear either a jersey knee length dress, or a blouse and knee length skirt. Most of the year I wear opaque tights (so British) in navy, grey or black. I'd like to wear ankle-length trousers too, if I could find a pair that works. I need flat shoes, and would prefer them to be not black, but quirky or patterned. I currently own:

faded black low ankle boots - these work well but are only just flattering enough

navy ballet pumps - super comfortable, but on their last legs

plum suede ballet pumps - not an amazing fit, fab colour and interesting style (see finds)

black ballet pumps - don't wear often as black and not an amazing fit (see finds)

back knee high boots - mainly in winter

black monks strap shoe - don't wear often, perhaps the high dark vamp is too much

What kinds of new-to-me styles should I try?
