Thanks Lisa! I had most of them already but did add a couple that were on your list. That list is a great resource - it gives an overview of each brand which is super useful.

This is an AMAZING list. Chris, I know this took a lot of time and effort - thank you so much for putting it together. I would never have guessed that it was going to get harder to find petite clothing but here we are. I've shared it with my daughter; she is in the wardrobe-building phase of life and I am sure she will find this super helpful.

Agree, Angie and Chris. I can often wear a short in pants if it isn't a high rise style (I do hem pants also which I guess is the same thing :)). And I find that often petites are smaller overall. Loft for example, I find when I try on a petite the best fit is usually a size larger than the regular.

great point Angie! For example the fit of a 12P is often similar to a 10R in the same item. It's annoying and easy to forget but it's pretty common.

Thanks RobinF!

LLBean and Lands End seem to carry everything in petite seizes as well as regular. I have items from both of them but I don't want to do sporty 24/7.

I too have seen vendors that shorten an item and call it a petite size. WHBM had a really nice sort-of-trucker-jacket a few years ago in a color I loved, more refined than a denim trucker. It had huge patch pockets on the chest that they didn't bother shrinking for the petite size although they did shorten the body and sleeves... so on me those pockets were way too big .... it was one of those "look right here at this part of my anatomy" styles that I DO NOT WEAR. :-)

I agree about quince - haven't seen petites. will add them to the list.

I agree also about Sundance. I ordered a few things from them over the years but they didn't fit right so all returned and the prices were too high to keep trying often.

Awesome list! I get so frustrated when I search. Even brands that carry petites often have much fewer quantities and color options in the petite sizes, or they only go up to a 10 or 12. Oddly enough, Old Navy is the most comprehensive that I have found. Almost every item I have clicked on comes in petites. Unfortunately their quality is less than I like in general. I have also found that sometimes petites clothes are not really sized to a petite. A coat I got from Macy's that was a petite didn't fit right. I finally realized that the buttons were not in the right place which made it catch on my back and fit the front awkwardly. I think they shortened the length and called it good.

I have also seen a lot of Quince items being promoted by influencers but from what I can tell, they don't offer any petites.

Too bad about Sundance, I hadn't heard they went out of business. I lusted after a lot of their items but they were pricey for me unless on sale.

Ophelia, good input on Hobbs. The only Bloomindgales in New England is 50 minutes away from me, and is the only place I've ever seen Hobbs coats (but the store carries no petites at all) .They truly are gorgeous. The next time I'm in the market for a "wool dress coat" I would definitely consider them although I'd have to order online.. or visit your mall in Washington DC :-)

MsMary Thanks! Glad to hear the quality of BR Factory is good these days - I've found it inconsistent a year or two ago.

Thanks Carla. Short inseams do NOT work for me ... I need regular sizes in pants. I have proportionally long legs for my height and do not like cropped styles. But I will definitely add those notes the list!

Jaime - fascinating that petite sizes are not cut right for you even though you are the right height for petite sizes. We are all so different ....

Thanks Angie will add Artful home too.

Charlene great comments. I've added more "petite friendly" indicators to the list.

Chris, thank you so much for posting this list. It will be very helpful to me as a fellow petite. Carla mentioned Lululemon and Uniqlo offering petite friendly items even though they do not specifically advertise petite sizes. I appreciate that both Lululemon and Uniqlo offer free hemming, so even if pants that are petite friendly aren’t an exact fit in the inseam, they can easily be adjusted.

I am also interested in hearing thoughts on particular items that may not be offered in petites but are petite friendly. For example, Theory’s Treeca pant is not offered in petites, but are a perfect ankle length for me and I’m 5’3”. Theory’s Clairene blazer is also a great fit for my shorter arms. In addition, Frank & Eileen’s Eileen shirt has shorter sleeves.

I have yet to try Me+Em’s short inseam pants, but the bracelet sleeve blazer I ordered required extensive alterations, so I’m nervous about trying other items.

If you know of specific items that are petite friendly but not specifically petite, I would love to hear about them.

Wow fantastic work. I am 5'3" but wear very little petite clothing - mostly because I don't find it but I also don't always find that the proportions work on me. I do appreciate when I don't have to hem something!

FWIW, Lululemon does ‘petite’. They call it ‘short’. The other lengths are called ‘regular’ and ‘tall’. They also post the inseam length.

The pic below is from a pant that is supposed to ‘puddle’. Some of the cropped versions have even shorter inseams.

If you have an opportunity to shop in store, try on the Uniqlo items. At 5ft 7in, I find many of their garments aren’t cut for me - too short in the inseam by up to 2 inches (!) and iffy with sleeve length.

Hi Chris,
Fellow petite here. Like you, I’ve been very frustrated by the fewer and fewer petite options. Even brands that have been doing petite for awhile are making fewer and fewer items in petite sizes these days (I’m looking at you, J.Crew). And sure, Anthropologie has petite items, but they always appear to be sold out, so I’m guessing they just have very low stock.

Fortunately, British brands have come to the rescue. Like you noted, Hobbs does petite sizes, and for anyone who lives in the Washington, DC area, there is a Hobbs store at the Tysons corner mall. Last year I happened to see it out of the corner of my eye while I was at the mall and I remembered Angie’s comments about the quality of their coats. So I took a chance and popped in, and was thrilled to find great quality petite coats. This has been a complaint of mine for a long time that there just aren’t nice petite coats. We’re relegated to the J.Crew type coats, but there’s nothing if we want a slightly higher level of quality. Well, I walked out with two great petite coats, and I went back this year for a third. These coats look and feel fantastic. They were just what I was looking for- something special and a bit beyond the regular.

British brand Reiss also has petites on their website and their petites are also available through bloomingdales.com. Two other British retailers, The Fold London and Me + Em don’t carry petite sizes per se but have a petite edit section where petite friendly items are located.

For more brand ideas, check out the inside petite style podcast. I’ve been listening to it and discovered new brands and brands that I didn’t think had petites. She also has show notes and various guides with list of petite brands.

Finally, there is shortnfeisty.com. She has links to some other petite brands that tend to be very GenZ, but some of them might have things you’re looking for, plus, if we can encourage some of these younger brands stepping into the petite space, who knows where we can go from there?

Hope those suggestions help!

Interesting list, Chris. In New Zealand there are very few specifically petite brands. In my extensive wardrobe of 150+ pieces I only own 2 petites, one from a range in our longstanding department store Farmers. That’s a tweed jacket and it certainly fits me perfectly except I still had to turn up the sleeves! Maybe I really do have T-Rex arms! The other is my only pair of wide-leg pants, which I really appreciated not having to hem.
Good on you for compiling this for yourself and others.

Cat2 Thanks, I added Lafayette 148 to the list.

Slim cat thanks, I’ve added those denim brands too plus Aqua under regular brands. I’m not going to start adding info on which specific regular brands could work for petities – that list would be endless.

Thanks Angie, added spanx and mother.

Bloomingdale's in San Jose, CA only offers petit sizes in denim brands - Lil' Mother, Pixie Frame and DL petit ( jeans only ). Aqua - Bloom own brand - may work for tops since it started as juniors brand and then expended in styles and sizing. The rest is on line only. Unfortunately petit sizes suffered through pandemic and became limited in general.
I can't find much of petit sizes in our Nordstrom ;-( .

Thanks Roberta! I don't think any clothing vendor is under any particular obligation re: choice of target customers. I am just tired of wasting my time on ones that are unlikely to work for me.

Thank you for this effort, and I am astonished to see so many major brands that DON'T offer petites! Shame on them when there so many women under 5'4" ( or whatever the guideline is).

Irina - thanks, glad it's useful to you! I am in the same boat as you although our styles are different - don't have access to petite brands (although I'm willing to do a lot of online orders/returns which changes that) and some of the brands I really like don't have petite sizing. One of my ideas is to search online for "cropped jacket" for some of those brands, or something like that. Of course you are in Canada, and as a country 1/10th the population of the US you just don't have the quantity of options we do here in the U.S.
