I've been wearing the free people racerback bralettes. I like them, though they don't provide as much support as a normal bra.

Again, thanks for this post, Texstyle. I picked up two bralettes yesterday -- more like what Astrid and Diana posted. Kind of simple, soft, almost athletic wear but not so rigid. One in white with a pretty halter neckline from a local store and one in bright orange from Gap outlet. The white halter one is going to work in place of a strapless. (BTW, I tried on a Free People strapless lace bralette, and it could have worked, but I would have needed a larger size ... and it didn't seem like it was going to be as comfortable as all of the others we are talking about here. It seems more like a piece you get for the look rather than the ease.)

After reading your post I decided not to bring any traditional bras on vacation. I'm going for total comfort.

If I had more time I would head over to VS to look at theirs. You have all posted some very cute ones from them!

Thanks for the recommendation. I picked up a couple of the Soma lounging bralettes a while ago and I'm enjoying them for around the house wear. They do not have adjustable straps but fit my smaller upper body well and are amazingly comfortable.

Interesting. I have one bralette and I only wear it to show. No wait, I have another that I thought would make for a sleep top, but it hasn't turned out that way.

I think this is the one I used to wear from VS. It did not have much support, but that was what I wanted--I am pretty small. It had adjustable straps. I had a couple of them and really liked them.

After a while, I just stopped wearing bras altogether and would wear a very thin silk cami from J. Crew underneath any tops that were too sheer for my liking. Obviously, there was still some "headlight" effect at times, and you could tell by my shape that I wasn't wearing a bra, but you couldn't see anything. So it depends on what you're looking for. I find that the J. Crew silk camis are so thin that I can even wear them in summer underneath tops and I don't get too warm.

I started wearing a bra again because I wanted more definition of my silhouette, but after about six months of that, I am ready to go braless again. I guess I am hard to satisfy, ha ha.

I've been wearing these black cotton bralettes by eco brand Living Crafts on warm days lately. They have 5% stretch I think. I like that they have adjustable straps. And the v neckline doesn't show, it pairs perfectly with my new v neck wrap dress for example. I often wear black cotton undies, so I'm even matching. I don't really need much support and this is sufficient if I'm wearing a top that works with it. There are some tops where I prefer the shape a proper bra gives me. I'm thinking I should buy future summer stuff accordingly so I can just keep wearing these when it's warm. So much more comfortable! I tried some lacy ones too, but they seemed to negate all the advantages.

Diana, the ones I've shown both have adjustable straps. I sometimes wear a cami style as well just like you mentioned and keep a few white/black and blue ones for that purpose.

viva - thanks for the link. I have not seen or had any experience with a strapless model. I can't imagine how it would stay up. It is true that many of the bralettes are a little challenge to get on/off. That's why I like the ones with a good amount of cotton and just a bit of stretch - the really stretchy ones seem to be the most difficult.

AviaMariah - they are quite comfortable in the heat of summer - my summer lasts about 8 months here in Texas and I rely on these extensively.

I haven't tried bralettes but have thought that I should so thank you for this post. I think they would be really comfortable to wear in the heat of the summer and like the idea that anything poking out from under straps or low cut shirts would be pretty.

I have, and love, this one. It's very pretty and very comfortable. I love that it looks and feels like special lingerie. But it's not perfect because it's a pain to get on and it's pricey.

Thanks for starting this thread, Texstyle. It's a nice reminder to me that I'd like to wear more of these. I'm very small (34a) and it's such a nice option.

My daughters love the bralettes from Urban Outfitters, BTW.

Has anyone had any luck with a strapless bralette?

Am I the only one who prefers a bralette with a cami-style neckline? The reason being that I often wear them in place of cami+bra under low cut tops and dresses (either at the neckline or armhole) so I don't want them to be cleavagey or to look too much like underwear.

My other huge issue with bralettes is that I need to have adjustable straps because my torso is so short, and a lot of the pretty ones (Free People, I'm looking at you) have non-adjustable or only slightly adjustable straps.

I don't have the Natori one in the finds but it's the style I like. The ones I have are shimera (discontinued from Nordies) in the same style as the Natori, and a black longline lace one from AE.

I can't seem to collect it as a find, but it's this one:
https://www.ae.com/clearance-a...../4445_2148

Angie, I looked over the reviews again for that Nordstrom Day bra and remembered I had this issue - the cups were too big in the L but the band was too tight in the M for me. I need a large band size but smaller cup size and the gathered design of that one created sort of empty space in front.

Thanks Angie! I've tried (and returned) so many bras at Nordies I'm almost embarrassed to order more. I looked back on my orders and I did try this bra but I think I tried a L and should have tried a M. Maybe I'll go for it again as they are such a great sales price now.

I thought I'd share a couple of bralettes I've tried recently and have enjoyed wearing. These are not full support bras and are not meant to be. They are what I would call "modesty" bralettes. Just enough coverage and slight support so you don't feel like you're exposed - and a natural shape.

Both companies also offer other options, including some with padding. I've tried some padded bralettes (AE has had several over the years) but usually I've found the padding too thick in relation to the rest of the material, making it feel awkward. I'm still looking as I think the perfect combination of a very slight pad and bralette fit could be idea for certain outfits.

In the VS brand, I chose a size M and it works well for my smaller size (approx. 36 B but really even that is typically a bit large on me in the cup and I find a 34C way too uncomfortable, thus the bralette choice).

The VS bralettes also come in pretty lace and I did get one in a neutral purple gray color that is almost a nude and works under white. The Gap brand I sized up to L but maybe could also wear a M.

I'm still looking for more options in bralettes and hope retailers will be creating some new offerings over the next couple of seasons.

If any other bralette lover has found a good option, I'd love to hear your rec's!
