Oh, did I never post my resolution to this? Ann Taylor ended up having a sale on their camis and they were everything I wanted and more.

This is a good reference thread!

Anthropologie camisoles get marked down into the 10-15 dollar range quite frequently and they usually come in pretty colors with fun trims.

Hmm...even though it's an old thread, I found Ambrielle Smooth Revolution cami's at JC Penney and at Kohl's too I think. Go on sale frequently. Quite surprising how much better and more comfortable these are than the 'usual' cotton tanks.

After reading YLF throughout summer, I went looking for 'better' camis - and found some good basic ones. Only $11 right now. I got cream, black, white, chocolate brown back in the summer.

I also find the shelf-bra in a lot of cami's very annoying. It rides up, doesn't stay in place etc. Plus, I'm not a fan of the shelf bra flipping up as I put on the tank/cami. This leads to having to reach under the cami and pull the shelf-thingie down. Um...no thanks.

http://www2.jcpenney.com/jcp/X.....S4Filter=N

And they appear to have a lace-edged one now too, though I haven't tried it:

I found some at Forever 21 and at $3 a pop, I was able to buy more than one! I hate camis with built-in bras... so uncomfy and I feel that they squish everything together.

Edit
Ooops.... just noticed this is a really old thread.

Just bumping up this thread because I recently found a braless cami that I like.

It's from Target; it's called the Ultimate Cami. No shelf bra, modal (rayon)- 5% spandex (pretty good stretch), adjustable straps, and the neckine is not too low. The bodice is long enough to cover my belly and tuck in as well.

They are $9.99 in the store and currently $7.99 online.

Hope this information is helpful to someone!

Maya - I also have to wear a bra and I find that most camis with thin straps don't actually cover my bra. I get fitted and buy bras from Norstrom so I know I'm wearing the right kind of bra so I've been on the hunt for the right kind of cami.

I'm thinking of ordering these tanks from Martin+Osa because they look like they will cover my bra and serve the same purpose as a cami, plus they are only $10 right now. They are cotton with spandex so not the nylon you are looking for.

Maya, I have found places like TJ Maxx and Ross stores have a great intimate section and have loads of camis like these! Granted we do have a very good TJ Maxx here in my city though. I stumbled upon them once, and that is where I buy mine. They carry higher end brands too, but their prices are always under 15 bucks. I'm petite and even found petite bras and was amazed because they were all under 10 bucks (and they usually sell for 40). So, moral of the story is go check it out!

If you have a Steinmart, they have a brand Scott Taylor that has nylon spandex tank tops and camisoles in a variety of colors. I love them for travel because they wash in the sink and dry quickly. They work well under Sweet Pea tops (also great for travel).

Do you have access to an Esprit shop Maya?
I bought a red nylon camisole there with a bit of spandex in it, and I'm very happy with it.

I've had a look on their website, and there are a few camisoles available, all viscose/lycra though, so I'm not sure if they would do.
The prices are reasonable though: $19.99, $15.50 and one on sale for $7.99.

Over here, they put new merchandise on the website (and in the shops) almost daily, so it might be worth to go check it out?

These are nylon with spandex and they are $30 or 2 for $22.50. If you get BR coupons in the mail, you can get more $ taken off.

I have the black, white and the nude. The nude works particularly well under sheer white blouses - disappears. Colors may not be what you are looking for, but I can vouch for the quality.

I would also check out Ann Taylor Loft. They often have nice, inexpensive camis. But usually they are cotton with a touch of stretch. Try them - the stretch works pretty good.

I was wondering: is it acceptable to wear just a cami with no bra?

Just kidding :p

I'm looking for camis similar to the bodyshapers at NY & Co but WITHOUT a built in bra or shelf bra. I have found a few upwards of $30 but even $20 for a cami makes me cringe, though I can tolerate that.

Something like this, but not $38 please. I want to buy a few at a time so that's just too much.

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/28.....rchresults

I remember Express had a lot in a nice variety of colors, but looking at their website it seems like they are all bra camis. I'm looking for the nylon kind because they really hold me in and make me a bit smoother, and they're more durable. As to why I don't want the bra part: I still have to wear a regular bra anyway because I'm just too busty for a shelf bra, and the extra layer adds unnecessary bulk where I really don't need it and gives me a nasty case of uniboob! Besides that, it's hot, and I don't need more fabric than necessary. So yeah...anyone?
