Thanks Angie - I hope this helps the other procrastinators on swimwear out there. I've learned from you that diagonal stripes are magical and this is evidence.

Runcarla - It is worth a try, especially with Athleta's excellent free shipping and returns. I just tried it on without the pads and I feel pretty secure. The underwire and adjustable straps make a big difference. Read the reviews - very favorable on the locked and loaded front. I don't really swim, so can't give feedback about that aspect, but it has good range of motion with the arms and I'm not bouncing at all. You will have a lower neckline with your height - it hits right on my inner collarbones, but I'm a short torso'ed 5'2".

Order the size you think you would wear and a size down if available. I ordered my likely size and a size up, because ... you know ... swimwear, and I didn't even bother trying on the larger size bottoms. I did try on the 34B/C top and it was too loose under the arms and way less supportive.

kstewart - give it a shot, especially if you have an Athleta near by to figure out sizing. But the website has so many nice cute styles and the sale ones are really well priced right now. Size down from typical swimswear.

Thanks for the review! I have similar proportions and now know to try Athleta when I need a new swimsuit.

Karen13, I was looking at that top. Does it 'compress'? Is,the fabric thick and supportive enough with the pads removed? I like to be 'locked and loaded' for swim/beach activities. I really like the high neck style of top.

While there aren't full size ranges left, there is a great sale that has been going on for a while at Athleta. I struggle with swimwear as I am petite (pretty short in my upper body) and have a small bra band but larger cup size. Bikini tops never fit me and are really unflattering in their lack of support. And the tie-behind-neck styles are uncomfortable.

I just received these items from Athleta, and the XS bottom and 32D/DD top fit well and are as flattering as I can hope for (I hate swimwear). DH gave the thumbs up. The top has an underwire and removable pads, and an adjustable strap length in back. The bottoms are full coverage but per DH, " don't look like granny panties". The neck is higher on me as I have adjusted the back straps shorter, but that is what I wanted as I am so fair I don't want to have to apply any more sunscreen than needed. For reference, these sizes are not tight, and I am a typically 32D bra (in Natori Pure Luxe), size 4 top and size 0 bottom. I might have been able to size down, but I hate tight fits in swim wear.

Ive been traveling out of the country for a month so, apologize if everyone already knows about this sale.

ETA, atoday 7/27 Athleta added an additional 20% off all sale - lots of great stuff not just swimwear!

And a friend who wears Athleta Medium is rocking this adorable reversible navy and white top with a highwaist navy solid navy bottom. I would have lemming'd her if it had adjustable straps and was bra-sized.
