Thanks for the tip stringy. I am thinking of going to Myer, since I have a voucher for there. I had my last fitting there ( in 2003, about a week before I had dd#1). But I won't be there for a while, months maybe.
Kari, I was immediately taken by that recommendation - but then thought somehow I don't think a bra could take 10-15 pounds off my thighs and that is where I need it off. My upper torso is really pretty skinny and my bust needs all the augmentation a bra can give

It can help even for small busts - I'm actually between band sizes (10/12) and cup sizes (A/B), so it really depends on the brand. But before I had the fitting, I was just trying on a 10A and moving on (feeling very depressed) if it didn't fit right. Now I know to switch the band & cup size if necessary.

One tip: sometimes the places that do the best fittings don't have a lot of choices for smaller busts. I assume fit is more important for large busts, so they cater to that part of the market more. I got fitted at one store, but had more luck finding the plainer styles I like in another shop.

Although I stopped feeding a few months ago, I'm in the same situation Anne, my body has not quite settled yet. If you can't get a fitting I would suggest going to a department with many brands and style of bra, grab a few and see what works. Try a band down, the right size will be comfortable and supportive.

Before kids I was amazed that in a certain brand I would be a 34E whilst in others a 32F.

I think it is a common mistake to be fitted once and then continue to pull this size of the shelf regardless of fit.

My bras are no longer fitting, I'm being refitted in about six weeks when I next visit my parents, the lady in the boutique is so skilled it is worth the wait.

Anne, regardless of bust size, I sincerely urge you to get fitted. Some of my friends who were small busted were surprised when they got fitted properly and found that they should be wearing a smaller band size and large cup size than they had thought, or were shocked at how much better their clothes fit once they had proper support.

Unfortunately I have lost the link, but on someone's blog a long time ago I saw before and after pictures of a woman with a small-to-average bust, showing her previous unsupportive bra and her more uplifting, properly fitting bra. The pictures were incredible - it was as if she had lost 10-15 pounds instantly - and these were just amateur pictures rather than from a catalogue or marketing campaign.

Thanks Ladies,
Just realise I should clarify - I don't think my Mum wore the bras more than a few times- she bought the wrong size (she is an AA so you can see where the small bust comes from!)

Also Maya - I don't think they don't make nursing bras this small! I had several in B cups which are all way too big.
I am not sure how much milk DD3 is taking in, because once a week I go all day without feeding her and I don't get "full"

Yes, get a fitting!!! I'm really small and, like you, didn't think it would make any difference. It does! With a tighter band (but still comfortable and big enough not to cause buldges on the back andsides) I could actually go up at least one cup size.

I also have a small bust and never thought about the need to get fitted because there's not much there to fit... but after reading about the wonders of bra fittings on YLF, I am planning to get a bra fitting soon... and you should too! You deserve better than to be wearing hand-me-down bras! You should treat yourself to something pretty!

Get fitted NOW! I can virtually guarantee your band is too loose, if only because it's a hand-me-down that has been worn out already and probably not laundered correctly (not to mention you are breastfeeding--in which case a nursing bra is probably exactly what you need). It's important to go to a good fitter though as there are lots of bad ones out there. I wonder if Imogen might be able to point you in the right direction?

One of the things people rave about here is the difference having a bra fitted can make. While not at all discounting that for others, I am a bit sceptical that it would make much difference in my case.
I mostly wear some handme down t-shirt target bras (ie lightly padded) from my Mum! I think they are A-cup.
Frankly, I don't fill them out, far from it - but I like the way they make me look like I have a bust under clothes. They get a lot of rough treatment from my still breastfeeding toddler (ie she yanks them up from the band). The YLF consensus was that I should wait until she is weaned before getting a fitting.

However I have just noticed that I don't seem to have any black bras, and was thinking of rectifying that.

Should I just get a black version of what I already have or go the whole hog and get fitted?
