Shopping is such hard work sometimes. No joke. I sympathize.

But am really glad you have found your perfect belt!

Re the jacket: if the quality is good enough to last you a few years and the fit is good, maybe that's good enough for now? In the meantime you can continue to look for the perfect item at a price point you can afford.

BR did this to me too. I found the perfect tote and had a coupon for 40 percent off. No where did the coupon say that leather items were not 40 percent off. I was pretty mad.

I hate the fine print on coupons. I understand why things are not on sale and I'm fine with that. I wish they would make it easier to tell so that you know when you get to the register.

After giving up my frumptastic pleated trousers which fell at my natural waist and with which I most always wore a tucked blouse or sweater with belts as a major accessory, I've struggled with lower-rise pants and changing to wearing most things untucked.

With lower-rise pants, I have very picky criteria for belts, that are hard to find. The belt needs to often be a bit wider, needs to be fairly soft and/or contoured, needs to have a very flat buckle so as not to stick out too much since now it falls almost exactly where I pooch out the most, relatively. Often even a small belt buckle and its keeper stick out too much for my taste.

I found my almost-perfect belt (s) at Banana Republic. It's 1.5 " wide, contour, and has a fairly large, rectangular buckle that is curved so that it lies more flat than flat, and has a movable and flattish leather keeper, which is unusual. I found it on the "way out" after making a purchase and getting those coupons for 40% off a full price item "on your next purchase!" on various Wed nights. I went back this Wed and couldn't find the belts! Panic--but they'd been moved and put on sale for more off than the coupon. Set aside both black and brown.

So if you're looking for a slimming, hold-you-in belt, you might like to look there.

Then I browsed to see what I might find "at the start of the season" and found this brown tweed jacket that looked pretty good. 40% off sounded good enough to take home and try with outfits.

When I went to check out, they said, sorry, didn't you read the fine print--women's blazers not covered! It is in the fine print, along with a host of other non-covered items. Sheesh!

You might think I waltzed off in a righteous haze, and I did end up having the salesperson ring it up separately, but I bought it anyway. I had already ordered a tweed jacket, yet to come, from another store that I'm almost sure is never going to be fitted enough but I couldn't resist from the photo. So I'm keeping the BR one for now.

The real issue is whether I love it enough. I "really" want some gorgeous luxurious soft Italian (or whatever) wool tweed, and not the wool-poly blend and the fake elbow patches, but not for a gazillion dollars. So far as I can tell from my in-store retail experiences locally, that would entail internet shopping and multiple deliveries and returns and I may not be up for that. In theory such a jacket is a "classic" but I've adiosed any number of "classic" jackets over the years since there is always something about the lapels, or length, or something. So I'm more jaded about the benefits of holding out vs. wear this one for a couple of years. This one does go with 4-5 pairs of pants, not counting jeans. I am new to Banana Republic but have found, for good or evil, that some of their jackets fit me much better than other brands.

So, go for the belt, and beware the coupons!
