I used to LOVE Eddie Bauer jeans but no longer. They have added a significant amount of polyester to their fabric (which keeps the price point lower) but I HATE them now. They feel "wet" to me now and even worse, they attract lint, pet hair, dust, you name it, it sticks to their jeans -- doesn't matter what the wash/color is....lint and hair stick like glue. I sent two fairly new pair to the charity shop because of this major annoyance. If the BF jeans have polyester, run away (unless I guess lint/hair on your pants is not bothersome to you). I have not tried the Eddie Bauer BF jeans so I don't know the fabric content or the cuts. Last I checked, their trouser jeans were still cotton/spandex and I still like their cut so I would buy trouser jeans from EB. The fact their other jeans are made with this inferior fabric really bums me because otherwise, their jeans are cut well for my body.

I tried on some last year and this year bought a pair from J Jill, the slim BF. I did not expect to find them there at all because JJill not been one of my "pear" sources and never buy pants there; just some tanks. But they fit fairly well in the so-called waist and I liked the fabric that is mostly cotton and not a stretch fabric, and a medium wash for summer.

I think I like some of the new "slim" versions of the BF because they're just fitted and tapered enough that I don't feel so bottom heavy with a very boxy cut all the way down, but are not a true skinny that makes me look like an ice-cream cone. So I sacrifice a bit of the super-BF look but still get a style that seems different enough from straight, skinny, boot to feel like a change for me this year. As Angie says, you just have to try on a bunch to find the fit you like.

I am so glad I found this thread and will read Angie's recommendations for BF jeans on pears. I had eyed them, but did not try any on when I was at the Gap. I think I am so done trying to find a pair of capris that are flattering and may just give the BF's a try.

Oh, and Shiny...you're quite right! I migrated to a more tailored look many years ago as my budget and professional life grew. Now feeling attracted to a looser, boho inspired look, but don't want moonbeams and peace redux at risk of looking silly. Important to me to be reasonably fashionable in my work, but I don't want to compete with the 20 and 30 somethings in the office. So hard to find the balance! In this, as in so much else.

As you said, sigh.....

Alrighty! Took the plunge, bought the Eddie Bauers. And you guys are right.....comfy, on trend, adaptable to jeans + blazer + graphic T without looking like I'm grasping at my misspent youth! Now might try the Kuts...and the Kimmies.....

About the time I get on board this train, something else will come along. But you know what? I wore my riding boots into the sunset and then back again a couple of years ago.

While I'm not a pear, and only (!) 48, I think I can understand your underlying question. Those of us over a certain age do not want to be associated with mom jeans -- baggy, shapeless, high waisted, comfortable, light wash. We've spent a decade+ mastering the art of dark wash/no distressing, form fitting, flattering, not baggy, structured (not necessarily comfy unless lucky!), polished jeans. In fact, we've only just got acclimated to the idea that such polished jeans could stand in for our regulation perfect fitting black dress slacks, in almost any occasion.

It's kind of a headache to now be confronted with exact opposite of what we have spent all this time trying to get away from. Sigh. Thus is fashion cycles.

And yet... comfort calls. So enticing, that call. And lighter washes, even distressed looks, call too, as it's interesting break from dark wash crisp & polished.

The question is, how to adopt to our figures, lifestyles, etc. And though I am not a pear, I have to say that I am finding jeans that fit and work, for the first time not just in years but my entire life. Part of that is the wisdom to know what to look for when assessing what works for my particular body shape. Part of it is also having the income to spend on better brands -- though that is not a requirement/gating factor at all, it just means wider selection and also a bump of encouragement because that's the styles I find where I tend to focus my shopping.

As a pear, check out the 7's Kimmies. I think this is good entry way for BF jean. These are cut for pear shape (contoured waist band) even though I am not. I think would fit much better on a pear. They aren't super baggy but are nicely distressed/lighter wash. The AG Nikki's are another to try.

At your age you have wisdom to be uber-discerning here, and you should be. But venture out into the waters and try some on, and I think you will be pleasantly surprised, then hooked.

Thanks so much folks! I tried on the gGap jeans...a little too distressed for me. Tried the BFs from Eddie Bauer and liked them...darker wash, slimmer cut. But can't tell if they'll stretch out or not. I don't think I can pull off a super sloppy/distressed look, so I'm not going to be happy if these get too loose. Anyone have any experience with Eddie Bauer jeans?

And...take a deep breath...want to try with new hot pink pumps for spring. Whew! This forum is having some kind of effect on me!

I'm a pear shape and find the Kut from the Kloth Catherine's work well for my shape. Plus the distressing and whiskering isn't too heavy, and there are no rips or holes in them, so they do not look too casual.

I wear BF jeans and am a pear/hour glass. I am 58 and wear what I like. I do find a more fluid look in jeans works better with a curvy bottom half. Actually I feel more at ease in looser jeans. Tight jeans are uncomfortable. My first pair of BF jeans from 6 years ago were distressed and patched. I wore them constantly. I still have them and love them.

I don't see any issue with your age! BFs are very suitable for all ages because they are modest and the extra room is forgiving. Some people think that excessive distressing is not for somewhat older women, though you'll find disagreement on that. Lots of pears on the forum wear BFs. I say go for it!
