I'm a pear and I'm picky about BF cardigans. I much prefer BF jackets for the structure. However, I have worn BF cardigans with tall boots tucked into skinnies. Somehow the boots balance out the cardigan, and I like that look.

Make sure the cardi doesn't have a deep welt at the bottom as this will cling to the hip area. Make sure the cardi falls straight down from the widest part of the hip, belting it will define your waist x

You've talked me into it. I'm going to try the Nordstrom cardi. Something else I noticed on almost all the pictures is a either a printed top or a top with something on the chest. Perfect for the drawing your eye to your uppper half. I have very few print tops in my closet...they are all solids. I have learned that scoopnecks look much better on me than turtlenecks and crewnecks, but I still shy away from prints.

I have so much to learn.

That cardi is the same one I'm wearing, too. The different between this one and the one you posted is that it is both thinner and cut closer to the body than the other. Also, the pockets don't sag out to the side, so they don't add bulk at the hip.

Give it a try! They are great for wearing with skinnies.

Cillena - I'm wearing that exact cardigan you posted from Nordstrom's in my post "My Version of Angie's Ageless Casual Ensemble."

I have huge thighs, and I'm pretty happy with that cardigan!

Those are great looks! Maybe I'll try it after all. Would this cardi be long enough?

http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/31.....lorsNViews

Wish it didn't have to pockets to draw the eye down to my hips.

I have a couple of really long cardis, don't know that they are boyfriend cardis though. I feel like they draw attention to my lower body and make me look frumpy.

This is the photo. http://www.flickr.com/photos/5.....5287596437

I look like I have no waist in this photo and belting it just makes me look fat because of the bulk.

I am with Jenava, I would go for longish ones that hit mid thigh and wear it open.

I absolutely wear long sweaters all the time, since I prefer to cover my bum in skinny pants and jeans.

I wear them open (not sure why you would need to wear it closed?). You can wear it over a top with waist emphasis or a belted top, or you can belt over the sweater.

This style can definately work for a pear shape. If the cardigan hits too high it's more like a "grandpa" cardigan and probably not as versatile.

I haven't seen any long enough to come to my mid-thigh. I think it would be kinda bad given the widest part of my legs is right where most of them end. Then, with the unstructured shoulder...hmmm, might have to pass on this.

Interested in more opinions though.

I'm a pear shape and i love boyfriend cardis! I think you can do it! I've done them multiple ways...........I use shirts with v necks, blouses with tie necks, shirts with print. Anything to keep the eye up. Belting them are always an option as well.

And and i've paired them with skinnies and boots a lot! Go for it!

Edited to add a couple pictures....

I'll be watching with interest! I've avoided bf cardis until now, but am now suddenly desperate for one (and they're selling out in the sales fast). I think the key may be finding one that's long enough - mid-thigh rather than high thigh. But perhaps it's just not for me. Hoping to go shopping tomorrow.

I am no expert by any means, but I feel much the same way you do. I'm not a true pear but do have more weight across my hip/thighs. I tried a (too short) boyfriend cardi and it was a flop. I'm right with you on a shorter cropped layer on top! Wonder if there are any pears here who wear them who have advice on how to make them work??

I know that Boyfriend cardis are popular right now and I was going to get a couple to wear with skinnies and boots, but it seems like it wouldn't be a good silhouette for a pear shape. Unless worn open. I tend to really like the look of a longish Tee or Button up shirt with a cropped cardi or jacket over it on me.

I am just learning about clothes that work for a pear body type. I certainly have a lot to learn, but it does make sense when I think about what I like the look of on my body.

Am I way off base or is a boyfriend cardi probably not my best sweater shape?
