Late to this thread
1st, Bijou, you look FAB. Sophisticated and modern. I love the way you’ve played with texture and layering. And of course, the matchy matchy of this outfit, is well, perfect to me.
2nd, the most important thing I’ve learned here it that what i like and wear for myself, is what works for me. And that just because I don’t like it for myself doesn’t mean that its not great, its just not great for me.

Kellygirl, I like going darker in winter, it matches the moody weather.

Bonnie, you have enviable style yourself!

Sal, with your extravert personality and the fact that Farrah Fawcett is the poster girl for Flamboyant Natural, you have hit the jackpot of Kibbe types!

Adela, whilst I tend to dress intuitively, determining my Kibbe type was useful and rather than finding it limiting, it has helped me expand what I wear with a view to adding in some juxtaposition when wanting to wear architectural or sporty clothing.

Anchie, you and Angie look fabulous in colour. I especially love how you can wear yellow, which is such an uplifting colour.

Jules, I totally agree with you, I love seeing all sorts of style on the forum and often will then try to wear something similar but in a way that is appropriate for me.

Minaminu, I never really think too much about texture, but you are right, textural fabrics really appeal to me so I have a great variety in my wardrobe. Velvet has always been a fabric that I have loved.

Robin, I am glad to hear that you are able to wear what you enjoy, accountants can be a rather conservative bunch.

Wow, gorgeous suit! You look fabulous as always. I like a bit of ruffle and love dark moody prints.

As far as being in the work place, I think we are in the same field (accounting?) and I had to wear suits back in the CPA firm/banking days. They didn't have to be menswear-ish fortunately but still pretty conservative. That is why I now wear colored jeans and sweaters to work. I don't miss the suits at all :)

Sorry I forgot to say that I love this outfit, adore your style in general and appreciate the career backstory, especially as someone who also works in a male dominated environment. Personally I always found a bit freeing that there was no ‘norm’ to meet for me in my particular situation (but I’m also not career oriented, so not much at stake). Thanks for being your authentic self in life and here. It’s obvious that your clothes suit you perfectly.

I love the variety of personal styles being expressed on the forum (echoing what Sal said). It’s no fun at all if everyone dresses the same!
I frankly don’t worry much about what people think of a particular style here. If someone doesn’t enjoy detail X or silhouette Y, it’s a limitation for them, not a reflection on me.

Elegant stunning and definitely theatrical romantic. Nailed it!!

One of the things this forum does is showcase stunning authentic styles, I love seeing people being confident and true to themself in their own unique way. You are wonderful at doing this Bijou.

And whilst Kibbe can be complicated - I think it’s really helpful in developing your own style that works. When I go wrong is when I lean into something too dramatic or too classic when I am a natural - I still don’t know which type of natural but I want to be the flamboyant one!!

Christel - wow, thank you, I am humbled.

Slim Cat - I really love this velvet suit.

Rachy - those puff sleeves are all sorts of fabulous on you, GP and the rest of us can take style lessons from you for sure.

Cat2 - I feel you. When I read your post to say you were wearing a Kate Spade prairie dress I thought "I bet that dress is awesome" which I am sure it is. I also enjoy seeing others wear the Skater Boi trend well because that is just so out of my wheelhouse and yet on the right person it is a great look.

Suz - what a lovely and balanced response, you are amazing.

Carla, indeed - your rock your skinny jeans and they are so practical in winter.

SarahD8 - you look fabulous in your florals, I hope you continue to enjoy wearing them no matter what the current trends are.

Xtabay - I was wowed by GP's house too.

Fash - I admire how you are open minded and non-judgemental. It is all about what is comfortable and authentic for us as individuals.

Jenni - yes at 5 foot 5 some of those skirts drown me too! Initially I had a 'work uniform clothes' and my normal clothes, I dressed differently at work to how I dressed when socialising. I ended up changing things gradually, buying a deep cobalt blue suit and a black watch tartan and adding in colour.

Merwoman - perfectly said!

Suntiger, you would look amazing in this velvet number.

Jaime - I find the Kibbe system useful too and no offense taken at all.

You look absolutely smashing Bijou, and am with Suz, I hope I have never made one of those comments but if I did or do it is a projection of the item on me and me alone! I do think you are highlighting the best takeaway from Kibbe's system - the recognition we all have our own types of beauty and style and there is value in every type. I love your style!

You look gorgeous Bijou. I didn’t comment on the forum thread, only on the blog post explaining that many of the current dresses with lots of tiers look as though they will “drown” me as a person of not quite 5 foot 2.
I am interested in the psychology of how you moved back to your preferred styles after being told to wear the more masculine ones.

Awesome pieces and great pattern mix! No way can they look juvenile on you, because they are fitted to your adult curves, and nicely so (I hope that doesn’t sound creepy).

This board likes to consider itself advanced, nonjudgmental, open-minded, etc, but every once in a while the fangs come out. It’s part of fashion; without hating the old, how would merchandisers get people to buy something else?

WOW! This is just stunning on you, Bijou! I love the dark florals and the pattern mix. Very sophisticated and the opposite of juvenile! Taking notes as it is a look I would love to copy/take inspiration from in the future.

I wear a lot of florals, often small-scale (maybe you've noticed? lol) yet I do often find ruffles and puffed sleeves feel juvenile *on me.* I think it's because of my fair coloring and short stature. Yet these elements look dead right on you (despite you also having fair coloring.) I'm also often struck by how great Angie looks in high-contrast, graphic looks that would overwhelm me -- again despite the two of us having similar coloring/features in some ways. It really is about the whole package, and what feels right to the wearer. Clearly, you know how to rock your own look!

Bijou, you look gorgeous in this! Sophisticated and romantic! I love the texture of the suit and the pattern mix. And also, you now really have two mix and match suits with the skirt/ blouse combo and the pant/ jacket combo. Don't you just adore 2 piece dresses? My favourite!

I hope I was not one of those who said anything about "juvenile." If ever I did, I want to hasten to say that when I make a comment like that, it is always and only about how an item looks and feels on me, to me.

Or sometimes, about how a preponderance or flood of such items at retail can make the entire store appear. (More often about that, really...when a certain set of trends flood the market, as Angie said, it can put off shoppers who are not attracted to them and prevent them from looking closer.)

I'd never ben talking about how it looks and feels on another wearer. I can appreciate ruffles, bows, puffs, ditsy prints and all the rest on someone who wears them well! As ever, it comes down to the details and how they work in combination on the wearer.

I understand the feeling, though. I sometimes feel a prickle of sensitivity when people comment that they don't wear blazers because they are "corporate" looking or "boring" and/ or when they say something similar about a button front shirt. (Not talking about what you said above-- I understand the context for that and it is personal!)

Blazers feel like part of my DNA -- I don't feel the least bit corporate or business-like in one and don't think I look particularly business-like, either, if I style with denim and other casual items. I also think a blazer can come in so many cuts -- some are more feminine (like yours, here), some are oversized, some are shrunken and spunky -- it's so variable! So for me, generalizing about that article of clothing just doesn't make sense.

Anyway...I once waited tables in a restaurant where I had to wear a gingham and dotted swiss drindl-skirted, puff-sleeved, tiered-skirted, square necked, eyelet-trimmed dress with an eyelet trimmed apron over top (and a sort of bonnet). It was the epitome of feminine detailing and I felt ridiculous in this -- completely costumed and unnatural. But you know what? On some of my co-workers, it looked positively adorable. And for all of us, it proved a surprisingly practical work outfit.

So I say, each to her own and you rock this!

I am with you in feeling a bit offended by the posts about ruffles. I clearly say what I like and don’t like, but don’t rant about how those who like things I don’t are juvenile, etc. No one needs my approval to dress like a skater boy, and I don’t need anyone’s contempt for feminine details.

Star, I love that description, moody romantic is great for dark florals and velvet.

Milano, it was a lucky match. I really appreciate that you think it looks class and not twee.

Jessikams, you have some fabulous velvet pieces too. I love how you wear dressy items in a edgy and contemporary way.

Brooklyn, the great thing about YLF is that I don’t think any forum members meant to say anything hurtful or belittle me and other forum members who actually like puff sleeves, ruffles and florals. Your feedback and approval is much appreciated as you are most definitely a style icon to me.

Deb, thank you for this vote of confidence.

Lana, that is high praise indeed. I find you wear these trends in a sophisticated way, your addition of combat boots makes sure it never is too sweet.

Irina, I love your signature style which is unique to you. Enjoying styles different to my own is one of the great joys of YLF.

Gryffin, this suit is the bomb! I love it so much. Thank you for thinking of me and letting me know about this style.

LJP, thank you for your lovely feedback, it means a lot.

Angie, very wise advice, glad you like my beautiful new suit.

Janet, I can appreciate that puff sleeves are not for everyone. I am lucky that they work for me, although they do make layering under a jacket a little tricky.

This is a great look. I don’t think the print is ditsy. Re puff sleeves: I don’t like them on me (I’m already wide enough!). They are fine on others. And you look fab!
