Thanks for all the useful info Nicoleb! That really helps.

I think I'll do exactly as you suggested:wait till they go on clearance, since I'd be carrying them in the fall anyway. So if either of the two is still left, then it was meant to be

I've seen all the Botkier bags IRL and the ones you picked were my favorites. The black python one was probably the most "expensive looking" one in the line. And the fuchsia one is super pretty and fun.

I've bought several different bags from the design for Target lines and i always get a lot of compliments on them. But at the same time, they are what they are. I personally could never spend $100 on a handbag because i would be too worried about it everytime i used it. But that's just me.

Another tip: In my experience, you can usually wait until the bags go on super clearance and it will still be around on the website. I got my Loeffler Randall bag for $13 rather than $50(?) and i love it and have been carrying it all summer.

I try to ask myself, "Is this fabulous?" and unless the answer is "yes" I generally do not buy it. Price is not a factor. Any given item could be $10 or $100 and be fabulous.

I tend to go crazy with handbags, but if it is your first expensive bag purchase, definitely wait until you find one you love! There are so many lines out there, with more every day! You can't go wrong with a large black bag with subtle details - you will definitely get your wear out of it!

Thank you all very much!

There is Target somewhat close to my house, but it's still a bit out of my way. I'll stop there if I have a chance and see how the pink one, which is my first choice, looks in reality. If it's not too bad, I might get it.

I looked at BBS, and though there are some nice ones, there are none that I really love. If I was to go that way, I'd probably want to find a large big black one with some subtle detail for my first expensive bag.

Tanya, are you able to go look at them in person? Like Amy, I have wanted to buy a lot of the designer collections from Target, until I saw them in person. In another post I mentioned the good quality of the Botkier bags and how well they hold up. I would hate for you to get one of these and be disappointed. That said, I LOVE that purple bag and would be interested to see the quality. It might be worth it no matter what just because it is really fabulous. Quite similar to one of their hot styles in their regular line.

Perhaps you should consider trying to get a gently used Botkier on ebay or the Bag, Borrow or Steal outlet? You have to have a login (free), otherwise I'd link to it for you, but there are currently 16 styles on super sale at BBS. These bags wear fantastically, so a gently carried bag would probably still be is super condition. There are some awesome bags for 60% off, bringing the price down to even less than $200. The style you want may not be there, but they are always changing!

I had great luck at a Bloomingdales sale when I got my black Trigger. It was on sale AND I had a coupon for further discount. So, keep your eye out for sales!

I used to buy only bags that lasted years and years. Now I have a combination. A couple of really good quality, higher priced bags and some cheaper ones that I know won't last more than a year or two. So I'd say go for it but I would check them out in person so see how cheesy or presentable they look before doing so.

I hear you ladies, I completely share of all your sentiments when it comes to cheap
PVC bags. This is a special case for me now- I'm really tempted since Botkier IS one of my favorite bag designers. Then again, I do not want to carry the same bag as half of my city. Hmm, decisions, decisions ...

I'm lucky that my local TJ Maxx has an incredible selection of discounted quality bags. I pretty much buy all my bags there these days, even if it means waiting for months of inventory before I find a good fit. Yea for TJ Maxx!

Tanya, I have a similar PVC aversion. As Amy said, I, too, would rather have a better quality product, even if it doesn't have the designer name. But then when I buy, I want something that's going to *last*, because I don't always have time/money/opportunity to make another purchase right away.

I always walk in and look at the Target bags by the newest designer, thinking I may walk home with them. Inevitably, I walk away because 1. the quality of the material is subpar. I'd rather have a lesser name bag (Kenneth Cole/Cole Haan bags are just fine for me) of greater quality and 2. Because there are so few bags to choose from, I always think of the bag as being almost too well known. I don't want to carry the exact bag of everyone else in suburbia, y'know what I mean? Maybe that's just silly me, but I've had that happen with Target bags before.

But that's just my two cents. If you love that particular design/designer, then maybe you should go for it!

Those bags are great! Have you seen them in person to look at how they are constructed? I bought a few PVC bags, and they worked just fine for me. However, I moved last summer, and the form of the bags did NOT hold up in the heat. They are kind of smooshed and don't look as good if they aren't ruined. No more PVC for me! If PVC works for your budget and you can make sure they don't stay in a hot car or anything, it could be a good way to save some money. Real leather lasts for years and years, and might be more of an investment.

Botkier makes some really nice bags I love, but at least for now they are not in my budget. So I stick to cute more affordable stuff, but unease it's patent or canvas, Itry to find real leather. most of the pleather I've seen looks pretty bad.

Anyway, as some of you may know, Botkier launched a line for Target, there are some really nice designs, but of course it's all PVC and such. I am particularly drawn to these two:

http://www.target.com/Botkier-.....038;page=1

http://www.target.com/Botkier-.....038;page=1

What do you think? Should I indulge and crush my PVC aversion or save the money towards a discounted mid-priced real leather bag ( e.g. such as Kennett Cole Reaction) ? Thanks!
