Aw, thanks CarolB. I hope you’re right—fading into the background is not something I’m good at.

But we are in the train now, with just a pair of pants I dropped in at the last minute. I have too much with me:
2 short skirts
1 long skirt
2 short dresses
1 long dress
1 pr shorts
1 pr pants.
In 18 days, I’ll only wear everything 2-3 times.

You're a sweet mama to not want draw attention from your son. I think as long as you don't do actual cartwheels during the tours, you will be equally acceptable/respectable/proud parentish in pants or a skirt. :-)

CarolB, throwing in a pair of pants would mean taking out a skirt. The one I’d leave behind is at the bottom of the bag (of course), do that’s where the question comes up. I’m fine walking around in 60 degree temps in shorts and skirts, but doing the college tours thing, I feel like I ought to play the part, blend in, let me kid be the one to get attention if either of us does. Thanks for the good wishes.

You must be excited to finally get this trip underway. I can't offer any wisdom about what people are wearing in the area, but it does sound like you can't go too far wrong if you pack for layering. Then it will be easy to adapt as needed for your own comfort on any given day.

Safe travels!

Kathie, if people are that mixed, it’s great for us. Here, as soon as temps dropped that low, it was like parkas were the favorite blankies that had been locked away from them, and they finally had them back, lol. I just put a sweater in my suitcase, thanks.

Laurie, we’ll be on the road for a couple weeks. With the humidity, are people dressing for hot weather? (Humidity can also make chill feel chillier)

I'm along the I-95 corridor, and people are wearing exactly as you describe- a mix. Over the weekend, I was walking with a friend, both of us in shorts and a tee for some exercise, and we passed a couple heading to dinner, both in jeans and long sleeves. You'll likely need a range of items, since Boston will certainly be colder than DC. Probably not wool sweaters, and if you bring sleeveless items, I'd throw in a light jacket or sweater for layering. But, I think you can't go wrong with range of short sleeves, lighter weight long sleeves, a few skirts and/or shorts, and a couple pairs of pants. Have fun!

Thanks ST. That’s warmer than my weather app says for those cities. What is its deal? 80 is easy to plan for; what I have packed sounds fine.

Right now it's 75 getting up to 80 later.
Still skirts, sleeveless, and sandals and likely will be for another month! But my skirt today is a maxi since it's pleasant and not Hot.

Our trip is almost here: we leave tomorrow. In the time since I asked about what people in Boston, New York, and DC are wearing this time of year, temps went up to full-on summer and now are back down to low 70s. That’s exactly the range that makes me uncertain what people will be wearing. Some people would break out the jeans and boots with fall jackets because nighttime lows are around 60; others would note that afternoons are close to 75, so would wear summer clothes.

Hence my question: how are people from Boston to Washington dressing for these temps? Please & thank you.
