Until recently I had a mid calf pair of combat style boots in this brand. Lug soles. From Amazon. Water resistant and very comfy. I had them for about 3 years and gave them a pretty tough life (lots of dog walking in all weather conditions). This last winter their waterproofing failed - my feet would get wet if I even walked on wet grass. So I chucked them. But I kind of regret it because I miss them. I would definitely recommend. I took my usual size - sizing was European I think. Maybe not for true hiking (rock climbing etc) but definitely good for serious walking.
