I can understand why you have hems done. Sewing machines are expensive....at least the ones that actually get the job done. Sewing a hem on bulky jeans, faux fur, etc. requires a quality machine. That's why I don't have a new one. Mine is 31 years old! Replacing my nice old machine at today's prices would cost around $2200. My sister bought this in orange. And she had the same complaint you did, the extra fabric around the waist was too bulky. But she loved the color so much she ended up taking off the waistband and doing box pleats all around( well, her alterations guru did). It is still a little too bulky but better.
