I do not know if those booties would work with the rest of your wardrobe, but I love them! By the way, I have a pair of socks that are very similar to yours, I bought them in H&M.

i really like them under the boot cuts and they have less of a western vibe that way.

ooh I really like them - they are unique and the two tone could work with many items. And you mention they are so comfy! Perhaps these are the last category of booties that Angie talked about - the fun ones

I have a similar pair of Borns, but without the detailing, they are a grey nubuck. I love them to death (and need to replace them next year), but I do not wear them with dress pants, only jeans. Yours look a little more refined with the detailing which could be treated as a two-toned oxford to tone down the western look. I love the idea of leopard with them (naturally I love leopard with anything though) Otherwise I'd also listen to Beth Ann's advice.

I think Beth Ann has given excellent advice. Look at the items you truly love and feel 100% fab in -- and see if there are commonalities. Think of one or two outfits that are your favourites. What distinguishes those outfits? Take pics and show us!

I think you could neutralize the western element with a bit of modern edge in other elements, but what I've seen of your wardrobe indicates that you have more classic pieces. Your instinct to add interest through footwear is terrific, though. What about a tan suede bootie? (classic example below).

I can feel you itching to bust out of a style that you feel isn't serving you well --- can you pinpoint the items in your wardrobe that already give you a happiness factor? Even if it's just the shape of a jacket, or the color of a sweater, I think this, along with an inspiration photos, will help you move forward.

I wish I could be more helpful with shoe fit and comfort! There are others on the forum who are experts at dealing with narrow widths and comfort issues.

sarah, thank you so much for those comments. I remember that photo and it's a good roadmap.

I was thinking I had to not do too much western to avoid costume-y but perhaps the idea is to echo it in one item or so while keeping the others classic? At work it is harder to do because of the limited number of items that make up a work outfit (no jacket, no handbag). Jewelry, shirt style, and belt are options. Watch, but often it doesn't show.

Right now I'm not sure I have the fashion chops and confidence to know when I've got it right, so it could be that this direction would be more work than play or would cause me to buy things just for these boots. Still, may be worth SYC and some try-out photos before final decision. If I compare and contrast to other footwear I have, a lightbulb may go on somewhere about whether it's worth it, or stick with basics for now.

They definitely do have a western vibe, that's for certain. So, if you decide to go with them, I'd be very deliberate about styling them, so it doesn't seem like you're ignoring or hiding the "western-ness" of them, but, rather, embracing it.

This post is very informative, I think.

http://youlookfab.com/2011/03/.....d-up-suit/

Even though Angie doesn't have other western clothes on, the fact that the belt bookends the boots and is studded, and the button down collar is open, and the trousers are boot cut, all "fit" with the style of her boots. Does that make sense?

So I still have not gotten to make my Pinterest board and discover my fashion truth. I know I need to do that..... So feel free to point out that I have not yet determined where I'm going. Still, in general it has been a good thing this year for me to try different styles, shop in different stores, and overall turn over more stones. But the downside is that I may go off on a style tangent and later go, what was I thining?

However, I tried on these Born shooties ( I swear, i was looking for dressy shoes!) just because I could sorta tell they ran a little more narrow. I have tried on several Born's over the year and found them comfy in general but too loose, too biggish. Please excuse my polka-dot try-on socks.

I was not looking for this type of detail, which is Western. I was however interested in the lighter color and in the 2-tone detail as a generic concept to add some spice.
However, if I were being practical, I could use a solid dark cocoa-brown bootie with more of my pants. OTOH, I showed these with khaki-colored bootcuts, which is a color I like to wear and do wear about half the year (would wear in deep winter if I had cozy wool version) and these do give a totally different vibe than would a dark brown shoe.

Now the problem is, they feel great and I feel great in them! And not just like a squashy comfort shoe, but I like the way they fit fairly close around the foot and the bit of heel and they just feel neat to walk in (though have not put them in circulation yet, in order to decide re: keeping). The 2" heel means I would not likely wear on my roughest work days, but since they're more comfortable than I ever expected, I could wear to work, from that standpoint.

So, do I need talking down? Or is this something that I could style against type, to create a contrast, meaning, I would not wear other western elements with them for work . Before the return date, I would have to play in my closet and try some outfits. Things I have that might work would be one of several pairs of tan, camel or khaki trousers worn with patterned silk blouses worn as maybe volume over less volume; leopard cardigan with colors of tan, cream and brown; other workwear knitwear tops.

I am totally NOT Western/cowboy in style unless you count plaid shirts for casual wear. I know I could wear these with jeans, and that helps with the versatility, but that's not the main point.

I'm having a bit of trouble telling whether I might be closing my eyes to the Western aspect, while astute observers will think I'm wearing my cowboy boots to work by mistake, versus whether this is a fun and appropriate style mix-up.
