I like the way they look. And I think when you wear them with a trendy top, the look does read intentional. I can't remember the brand, but I have seen some square toed footwear at Barneys.

I think I will do both--keep these burgundy ones because I really like several outfits with them, both color and style which change up the look of some basic outfits, but I need to experiment with other brands.

I actually tried the black patent in the Born as well--on sale, you know! -because I can use that with lots of things. SO tempting to duplicate, but I returned them.

texstyle, that's a great idea--I was reading the recent posts on Fidji tryouts.
So, I think I need to find another brand that "gets my feet" comfort-wise, that has some of the same features but with more....true edgy/arty look? Not that I'm arty-- I mean, trying to find the type of shoe that seems to work intentionally with a more rounded toe, blockier heel.

Have you looked at Fidji pumps by chance or Campers? I know in the past a few people here on YLF have worn some lovely ones in these brands. Don't get me wrong, these aren't bad at all (look how many people love them), but you seem like you're not totally sold on them yourself other than the beautiful color and comfort - which again, are very important factors.

A few I found when just looking quickly:

http://vip.zappos.com/fidji-women-heels~1

Firecracker, good eye--the # 3 pants are " straight" and # 4 are the tapered Theysken's.
Oh, I like the idea of exploring arty. I might not turn out to BE arty, but in a way it's more I am not shoe- wise at all. I am doing better since YLF, but compared to most of y'all I'm in the weeds on what all options are out there.
When I try to use " comfortable, flat, not pointy, professional, and stylish "all
in one sentence I only come up with a few images. ( Boots are an exception and why I'm a recent convert to boots)

Well...I hate to be another spanner, but I'm not in love with these, aside from the gorgeous color. I feel like the square toe coupled with the low, chunky heel really makes them stumpifying. I hate to say that, because I know how desperately you are looking for low heels that are comfy! Sorry.

I think they are so darned cute with your skirts. All the skirt options shown here. I'm not crazy about them with the pants in 4 but like them in 3. (The pants in 3 are more bootcut, right, and the others are more tapered slouchy pants?) I would do a ballet flat or oxford with 4 instead.

I vote yay. They give you another option to wear with skirts or bootcut pants.

I am going through a similar decision regarding some shoes I bought yesterday (shhhh! I'm supposed to be participating in ascetic august). They are super comfy, round-toed, and probably not in the direction of sophistication that I have purported to be aiming. They are more arty, though, and I will suggest that's another direction you could go, to achieve comfort and style. I don't see arty as part of your style, but perhaps somewhat arty (brands like Pikolinos or Fidji come to mind). That's more my approach though, and as I said I don't see it as yours, as of now, anyway.

texstyle, I hear you loud and clear. I veer off into frumpdom in a heartbeat because of classic items, relatively short leg-line outfits, and sensible shoes. . That was the source of my hesitation. In fact, you might say that if I keep these, it would be strategic rather than lust, for outfits where I think these might be better than what I was wearing. They may not be as
versatile as " pumps" typically should be because this style doesn't work exactly as a refined pump. For example, I was having trouble figuring
the right footwear for slightly longer pencil skirts( pseudo- midi) because the seem to call for a heel. But, these
pumps may look better with shorter skirts and so function more like a loafer than a pump and leave me still with that dilemma. So, it's not a slam dunk.
Suz, thanks for commenting. Missed you!

I'm agreeing with texstyle, I love the colour too. For me footwear is a big part of what makes an outfit modern classic rather than classic - but I rarely wear skirts in winter either so ....grain of salt.

I like these a lot if the comfort factor is there. More than I thought I would, in fact. They suit your outfits and are elongating despite the round toe. I vote YAY.

I'm going to be the odd one out I guess because I'm not totally in love with the look of these. But I don't really wear dresses/skirts so maybe my vote shouldn't count. I do like the color a lot. And the comfort factor is of course a factor (especially if you have a need for another pair of office appropriate shoes). I blame it on the fact that I'm personally trying to find shoes with more "edge" to them since I wear pretty classic styles and a lot of jeans/denim shorts. I'm over 50, not particularly fashion forward but I have come to the conclusion that shoes are key to an outfit looking current.

Thank you, ambergeen and Ginkgo.
One thing I noticed about some outfits is that if I combine a more casualized top, like the silky sweatshirt or a high-low shirt worn untucked--and also wear a more casual or even masculine shoe like a loafer or an oxford, sometimes I found the combination looked too casual or off-hand--maybe even too trendy, thought that's hard to believe!--it's hard to put my finger on it, but there was something that was not quite where I wanted to be. Pic #1 is an example that looks better, to me, with these pumps compared to some other shoes I have. . So while test-driving these in home, I am doing some outfit creation to see if somehow they give me that missing something.

I really like the way these look on you, both color and style. If they're still being sold at Nordstrom, even on sale, that's good enough for me as far as being still current. It's not like they're 10 years old. And you have to go with what fits your inherent style; last year I was in love with the Jeffrey Campbell cut-out booties but they just didn't look right on me.

Oh good, enabling is in the lead. Thank you for taking time to comment.

This is eerily similar to what Rae's post discussed, but one problem is that Rae is Rae and much more young and hip, so retro for her is, well retro, but for me might be.....!
Diana, the toe turn-up thing is also not my favorite and is a Born feature that has put me off of some of their boots. So it's weird, but as you say, may not be a deal-breaker.
I had also wondered about whether if I were going to buy a not-so-modern pump with a blocky-toe, that perhaps I should search more diligently for other brands with that feature. I admit that to some extent, expedience is winning out plus I do think the color is fab--there are various burgundy shoe colors out there but this one speaks to me more. The bark brown color looks great in the photo, too, but this color is easier for me to work with.

If we want to be super nitpicky, I am not wild about how the toe turns up in front. It's, I dunno, maybe a bit twee. But definitely not a deal breaker as long as it's comfy.

(waving to Rae) started a discussion about the style pros and cons of Born
Danine pumps. Hers were in a metallic reptile.

I’ve been hankering to add a low-vamped shoe with a
semblance of heel for some types of work outfits, but can’t wear pointy or even
most oval-toes with heels for any length of time, and no spike or kitten heels.
I do work in the land of long days and night duty, where track shoes, clogs and
ballet flats abound, so in theory there is more wiggle-room for a “comfort”
style.

I decided to try the Born Danine—here in burgundy leather.
The target outfit types are: skirts with nude hose, as a change from
ballet flats or loafers; as a
low-vamped, slice-of-foot look with long pants, as others might do a "real" pump, or I might do a heeled loafer;
and possibly with tights, if not matching, maybe a softer look like the gray tights shown here.
I could also do sheer off-black hose, though any sheer hose are limited to warm weather (and dark
can work when season says fall but we have some warm days.)

1-2: sheer hose combined with tops that are possibly more “trendy”
(don’t snicker!) to mitigate the conservative pump

3-4: Pants with “nude” foot look

5-6: Shoe close-up; Tights-not necessarily the best combo, but for the
idea.

What do you think?

--Yay: Current fashion has a “big tent”; march to my own
drummer, wear these comfortable shoes but find ways to mitigate them a bit with
the other outfit components.

Nay: Fashion is a
cruel mistress; this ship has sailed .
Stick to ballet flats, loafers and oxfords or the "next new" flat shoe.
